Today marks ten years since RailUK Forums was founded in its current form.

In that time we have seen over 2 Million posts made in more than 100,000 different threads across the forum, with 28,000 members registered on the forum. This year has seen one of the highest number of active members ever recorded, with an average of 3,500 members being active over a 30-day rolling period.

As part of these celebrations we have been in the position to sponsor the Spa Valley Railway Diesel Gala this summer. We also hope to be able to meet as many forum members at this, and other forum meets that will be taking place over the next few months.

I'm also pleased to say that we have recently taken delivery of some special "10 years" RailUK badges, exclusively for forum members. We will have these to hand out to members attending meets over the coming months, so if you are after one be sure to get in touch with me to find out how you can get your hands on one!

This goes as part of a nice set with the other two badges we have provided in the past!

Happy birthday!

And thanks for providing a place that I've learned thousands of things in that time - will raise a toast to absent friends too

I look forward to the twenty year celebrations, when we look back on how good things were in 2015 (though we didn't appreciate at the time).

I feel privileged to be able to post with, to learn from and to interact with such a wonderful community as the one we have here on RailUK. Thank you all for everything over the last year and a half, including all the posts, replies, PMs, advice, quotes, threads, and everything, as well as support and participation over on Letter by Letter.

Here's to the next ten years of RailUK! :D :D :D :cake: :cake: :cake: :rf: :rf: :rf:

Wow, thank you! :D

I mostly post on the Quiz forum, which has a lovely community. I remember that, when I first joined, it was in the quiz forum where people began to help me fit in, Paul Sidorczuk in particular. All over the forums, I see kindness, wit and I learn all sorts of things. I'm looking forward to continuing participating in this forum with you all.

I've only been a member since 2011 but feel like I have a little family on here. 20 year celibrations seam a long way off but Im sure will come round quick enough. Happy Birthday :)

Don't worry, I've only been on here for under a year and a half.
But I feel really welcome.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :cake: :cake: :cake:

I've learned so much since joining and occasionally been able to contribute, now that I've mastered at least some of the arcane world of rail ticketing. It's also been a great place to research rail history, like rolling stock for example.

There's something for everyone who travels by rail, or has an interest in rail.

Here's wishing you even more success in the future ...

Happy Birthday RailUK Forums! :D

Like Blindtraveler, I joined in 2011, but in those four years I've learnt loads! There are some great people on here who are very knowledgeable. It's a great place to come and get my questions answered and to find out what is happening on the railways.

Here's to the next 10 years! :)

Happy 10th Birthday to RailUK Forums! :cake::cake:

I've really enjoyed being a part of this community for the past four years, learning more and more of Wigan's place in the rail world and then exploring everywhere connected to rail.

Even though I've only been to two 2 meals, here's to more meet-ups and another 10 years! :D

Here's to the next 10 years indeed! I'm a bit of a veteran here, as I've been here for 10 years. Many people around back then have moved on, but a lot of us are still here!

Hard to believe it's 10 years since the forum came to life! I've learnt so much in that time, and met so many people in that time that have become part of my life. It really is like a family here, especially amongst the regular trip report writers and its community of readers. I've been more than privileged to meet some of these people, which has been a bit like meeting long lost relatives!

Let's all continue the good times the forum brings!

A vetarin indeed! Who else from that far back is still around I wonder? I 2 have had the privilage of meeting some members and regard many as friends some closer than others and its really nice to have that! Thanks to those I have had the pleasure of meeting with and often bashing and socialising with too!

Happy 10th birthday RailUK. I always find it an interesting and generally friendly place to read and learn, and enjoy the mix of topics and posters. :)

And a happy birthday from me as well. I'm somewhat saddened by the fact that I've been unable to be involved with the forum over the last year and a half to the same level that I was over the first 3 of my membership.

Here's to another 10 years (preferably with me in a position to contribute to it!) :)

Congratulations and happy 10th birthday :D .

As a mere (but enthusiastic) passenger, I have found everyone on here welcoming and helpful, and the moderators run a very professional operation that belies the fact that it is not run for commercial benefit, and has no agenda other than letting people natter on about their favourite topic with like-minded folk.

Long may its success continue. One of the most genuinely 'accepting to all' forum sites on the Internet. Thank you all.

Yorkie and Mojo are just two I'm aware of from the beginning, I'm sure one of those two could tell you who's been here the longest!

I've lost count of who I've met over the years, but a lot of friends have been made! I'd be lost without some of you on here sometimes, certainly it's fair to say both yourself and Kite159 are two of my closest friends!

Since I joined back in 2009 (wow was it really that long ago....) I've seen RailUK grow as a community - and it's been a fantastic privilege to be able to serve the community over the past couple of years as a team member too. :) I genuinely think we've got a fantastic atmosphere, generally speaking, within the discussions on the forum and there's certainly every sign we'll be chugging along for another 10 years too!

Happy 10th Birthday RailUK!

Happy birthday. 10 years is a long time.

Although I'm not the worlds biggest poster, but I try to read posts at least once a day just to keep up, such is my addiction LOL. So much up to date news.

I've been interested in railways since I was 4 but finding UK rail forums has rekindled my passion.

I've made the conscious decision to do an ALR next year. So I read trip reports with great enthusiasm.

I've learnt so much about ticketing and fares and people often ask me how I know so much.

I also been lucky enough to meet some of you from the forum.

Here' s to another 10 years. CHEERS

As one who took retirement in 2010 and joined this website in 2011, RailUK forums has been a second home to me and after that stroke that I suffered in July 2012, became a source of solace and a place where I have developed PM contacts with a large number of other members to make life a better place for me, especially on the Quizzes and Games forum.

Heartiest congratulations to all forum administrators and moderators, past and present, for making this website available to people with many different transport-related interests with a fully-comprehensive index of thread availability over the last 10 years.

To echo the various sentiments, Happy Birthday RUK!

It seems I am one of the earlier joiners here, having been a member for 6 years and 3 days (hadn't realised my join date was so close to the forum anniversary!)

I started off as a relatively infrequent poster, just mostly entering Photo of the Week (and now, as per then, I fail miserably :P). Having since started visiting far too frequently for my own good, I have met many a member on the various meets and undoubtedly formed many long lasting friendships and it has been a great community to be a part of.

Here's to the next 10 years (and then some!)

Even though I've only been to two 2 meals, here's to more meet-ups and another 10 years! :D

Oh wow - hadn't realised you had just been to the two!

Yorkie and Mojo are just two I'm aware of from the beginning, I'm sure one of those two could tell you who's been here the longest!

I believe yorkie is member number 4 and thus the lowest numbered existent account

Can't quite believe I was only 4084 - the place has grown so much since then it is unbelievable!

I'd also like to thank both Paul Sidorczuk and Yorkie if I haven't already. They were great when I first joined, helping me to fit in. And to the QuizMasters, for putting up with me in my early days with my bad suggestions, and helping me to make it a reality when I made my first good one.

To all new members, do feel free to pop over to 'Letter by Letter...' if you wish. It's a fun game, indeed the whole Quiz Forum is a great place when you're starting out. 'The Next Station is...', 'Name the Station', 'The Rolling Stock Game', all of them. They're great fun. Thanks to all contributors on them. :D

Hear, hear! :D :D :D

Happy Birthday RailUK.

This is the only forum/social media site I post to now (even if only occasionally). I initially joined for information about Oyster, but I have learned so much about other aspects of getting from A to B: the ATOC Routeing guide suits my mentality (look up this, cross reference that!)

The social side of the forum is as active as the on-line side (although I only occasionally join in) with events taking place several times a month up and down this land. I still haven't quite got over the surprise of someone travelling across half the country just for a meal!

Well done to Yorkie and all those who put in considerable effort to make this forum really work.

Happy Birthday RUK! I have only been on here since late 2013 but it feels so much longer. I haven't attended many meets (only 2 in fact) with my 3rd shortly. Thanks to everyone who has made this so enjoyable and to the next 10 years!

Congratulations on reaching 10 years.

It's been a pleasure to be a forum member for the past five years (I'm member 7227!) and to learn so much. During that time I've gone from an enthusiast to a member of rail staff and its been interesting to be able to see things from both sides of the table. Its also been great to be able to meet up with so many fellow members and the forum team and get to know people face to face, rather than just their internet postings.

Here's to another 10 years!
