Before I flag this up to the mods, has anyone else found this site has slowed down dramatically in the past week or so?

Specifically, if viewing via Google Chrome, are you seeing a lot of "waiting for..." messages in the lower left corner of the screen? If so, I'm wondering if you're seeing the same ones as I am? ( I'll list them later - I'm in the middle of cooking the Sunday roast at the moment... )

I use Firefox and this is one site where I never seem to have that problem, I do get it with many others.

I've not had any problems. Think the internet is being fairly quick this afternoon.

No problems here either - not experienced any problems for quite some time now (since the days where the database was falling over, but that was sorted many moons ago!)

No problems with Safari apart from password not being remembered and Apple keychain does not work.

Hmmm.... maybe I should just keep an eye on it for a while. It's only this site I'm getting the slowness with really.

A lot of the "waiting for" are for things like the cache ( 20% ), secure connection ( 10% ) and mainly things that look like ad site URLs ( 70% ).

Try using Trace Route https://support247webs.com/windows-traceroute/ to see if there's a bottleneck in the connection between your computer and the servers

"...cannot find tracert.railforums.co.uk...."

Do "tracert railforums.co.uk" without the quotation marks - it looks like you may have tried to traceroute tracert.railforums.co.uk so it is expecting to find a subdomain which it cannot

Yes - I accidentally put the extra full stop in!

This time it gave a route containing 30 hops but the black box vanishes before it finishes listing things?

Meanwhile, here's a list of 12 of the most common things that appear in the bottom left corner that it is waiting for:

c.betrad.com
pool.admedo.com
ad.turn.com
dt.adsafeprotected.com
server.adformdsp.net
delivery.myswitchads.com
ad.doubleclick.net
c8.alamy.com
at.alenty.com
secure-ams.adnx.com
sp.adbrn.com
googleads.g.doubleclick.net

That's not an exclusive list, but it gives you an idea.

You can alter the number of "hops" that it shows. Are you sat behind a proxy server?

1) How can I do that? 30 is just the result it shows me.

2) Not as far as I know. Is there any way I could tell if I am?

OK.... update on the situation ( saturday 13th )...

Tuesday evening was the regular monthly Microsoft update day; lo and behold when I switched on the next day site performance was back to normal both here and at work and so far it has remained thus.

I therefore conclude that whatever it was that was affecting it was fixed by the Microsoft update.

Now I've got this happening but only when on the forum. Any ideas? It's causing the web page to either close itself down or to go into compatibility mode.
