Would an anytime single (@£1.50) from Pontefract Baghill to Pontefract Tanshelf be valid to travel from Pontefract Baghill to Moorthorpe ?

I believe so - that's my interpretation anyway - though it's bonkers.

Expect a negative easement coming up shortly

It's the shortest route between those two stations so no easement would make a difference.

But they may well introduce a higher fare at the next NFM

True, they'd have to re-route the tickets.

East Coast are unhappy at Darton-Doncaster being too cheap for the shortest route, so took over the Any Permitted flow, and are jumping up the price at each pricing round and the good value fare is now relegated to route: via Meadowhall.

That's the sort of tricks they can get up to, but they don't like the effort of doing that, so they usually do negative easements. Even though, in some cases negative easements have no contractual effect!

I seem to recall that being mentioned at a meet.

I also find some of EC/Yorkshire/PTE fares disproportionally expensive compared to WC/Greater Manc fares. Are EC just more proactive in shutting down anomalies?

Are there any examples where 'redundant' easements are still applied by journey planners?

EC are very pro-active when it comes to shutting down loopholes which have been revealed on this site. Most TOCs are these days.

I'm not sure if the TOCs are more proactive, they have just wised up to what a good resource here is for finding the loopholes people are using.

My message is unchanged from last time: set fair prices, and we'll just pay them. Try to rip us off and...

Surely a 'pontefract stations' group would be the cleaner solution? This would also allow long distance tickets to be used to any of the stations.

There is not a Pontefract Baghill to PontefracT tanshelf available - it is a Pontefract Stations to Pontefract Tanshelf - the shortest route being from Monkhill to Tanshelf.

So if you boarded a train at Pontefract Baghill and asked for a single to Tanshelf what would you be issued with ?

Or delete the fare altogether. Add a Pontefract Monkhill-Tanshelf ticket, and only offer "Pontefract Stations" tickets for longer journeys.

There are apparently no fixed links defined between stations in Pontefract, but Pontefract Baghill is less than a mile from the two other stations. While Pontefract isn't flat (hence the station names, I suppose), I can't see the train ever being a sensible way to go from one station to the other.

I'd agree, replace the fare with Monkhill-Tanshelf. I think a fare from Monkhill-Tanshelf is needed, seeing as they have an hourly direct service, taking a couple of minutes, for some journeys within the town I can see the train actually is the sensible mode here.

About using the ticket to Moorfield:
When I try to route myself via Moorfield, you end up taking 4h03 with stop-overs in Moorthorpe, Wakefield Westgate, Wakefield Kirkgate.
You could walk between Westgate and Kirkgate, and arrive an hour earlier. But if you'd go walk that, surely you'd be able to walk through Pontefract?
When I try to route myself via Church Fenton, it takes 3h35, changing at Church Fenton, Leeds, and Wakefield Kirkgate.
(I assumed you can't take faster services to go to either York or Meadowhall, and head back from there)
But as National Rail does offer it, it looks like it's got to be accepted? Just print it out / take a screencap, and see how it goes then, if you do it. ;)

It just makes so not sense at all, to have to walk in Wakefield, for a train ticket that looks to avoid walking in Pontefract. :D

You'll be told you are mad and get off the train.

Seriously is anyone actually suggesting getting the train for this journey or are we only talking about using it as a loophole?

The walk in pontefract is steep and not particularly short, so for some people it may not be possible.

And of course none of these buses are a viable solution, so let's just go via Moorthorpe ;)

Let's all go to Moorthorpe, let's all go to Moorthorpe, la la la la, la la la la....

...especially as you can do so for a quarter of the price.

As it suffers an identity crisis (according to wiki -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorthorpe) we can pretend it's somewhere else. There are similarities with North Korea as the town council is a one party state with uncontested elections.

I expect "minor adjustments" to be made to this fare by Friday morning, basing it on previous occasions when anomalies have been publicly highlighted here.

In peace

Adam

Not yet - though the £1.50 outward journey at 11:43 tomorrow is balanced out by the 23:34 return journey at £30.20 which involves 2 trains, 2 replacement buses a 10 hour plus wait at Monkhill and over 5 hours wait at Meadowhall taking 17 hours and 47 minutes.

Can't they develop a software system that actually understands geography ?
