Error code 107 showing up for a Sevenoaks to Wellingborough SOR journey this morning on the Sevenoaks to Charing Cross section at the South Eastern barriers.

I was travelling just before 0930 on an Off Peak. The website allowed me to book and reserve the St Pancras to Wellingborough 1000 departure under a Sevenoaks to Wellingborough SOR, and in order to make the 1000 I had to make a peak time journey to catch this connection. My understanding is that this is allowable to take a through London journey during the peak of your ultimate destination is somewhere else and you're departing from a London terminal off peak?

Please can someone confirm? I was let through the barriers this time by staff this time...

What ticket were you travelling on? SOR is the Anytime Return, but you then proceeded to mention the Off-Peak, or were you actually travelling on a Super Off-Peak Return?

I assume by SOR the OP means Super Offpeak Return. And yes, both NRE and other journey planners show this as valid on departures from Sevenoaks before 9am that connect into post-10am trains out of St Pancras.

For future reference, it is still possible (at 8.20pm the evening before) to buy Advances for tomorrow that add up to less than the Super Offpeak Return.

The barriers are not 'smart' and do not determine ticket validity.

They are probably programmed to reject all off-peak tickets during the morning peak, regardless of where they're from/to.

I hope you were able to go through the manual gate without incident.

Error code 107 means the barriers do not believe that the ticket is valid at that time of day. As stated above it is not determinative of actual validity.

I see. In that case they should have followed forum policy and explained the abbreviation before using it for the first time. This is a perfect example to illustrare where confusion could arise.

In that case, there is no restriction between Sevenoaks and London on this ticket, due to the Network Area rule.

Thanks for explaining, and apologies for the confusion with the abbreviations.

I was travelling on an Off Peak Return

Ticket barriers do not appear to be programmed with validity information as this varies by origin & destination (e.g. Sevenoaks to London = not valid; Sevenoaks to anywhere beyond the Network Area is valid), and as far as I can tell the restriction code does not appear to be encoded onto the ticket.

The Anytime Return (SOR) is valid at any time, by definition.

The Off Peak Return (SVR) and Super Off Peak Return (SSR) are restricted only between London & Wellingborough. There is, of couse, no restriction on either SVR or SSR between Sevenoaks and London.

Super Off-Peak tickets issued for journeys commencing within the Network Area to destinations outside the Network Area with travel via London are valid by any train to London to connect with trains from London.
