37424 and I belive 37416 (although I may be wrong with that number) are to be given a major exam and are to be returned to traffic BT Direct Rail Services.

424 and 407 are at Derby ..... though I'd imagine a 'major exam' is a bit of an under-estimate!

Haven't DRS scrapped better condition class 37's in the past few years?

Wrong, DRS sold 37406/410/411/416/417/426/427, which were ETH locos to CF Booths a few years ago. All were eventually scrapped.
Out of the locos that DRS now own, they want ETH ones, hence they are scrapping the likes of 37718 and overhauling the likes of 37424.

I would appreciate it if Boothby97 would word criticism of me in a more affable manner.

Unless they have since edited their post, what was wrong with it?

Looks to me like you were wrong, they put you right. If that upsets you, a forum isn't the wisest place to be.

Most of those 37/4s DRS sold for scrap were better than some of the current fleet, they must be pretty desperate to get 37407 & 37424 back into traffic!

Wrong.

I didn't say I was upset. I was saying that the reply was rather blunt.

Although my statement may not have been accurate regarding historical scrapping of locos, it stands with the current fleet, with DRS scrapping 37718 and 37682 (I think I have the right number there).

You have to remember that this is DRS were talking about here though, one of their casualties was 47709 - which was to receive a thorough overhaul and refurbished PU, while donating its PU to the dog of a loco that is 47841 which would have had a lighter overhaul. However, the decision was seemingly changed, both were stored then 841 moved to Barrow Hill while 709 was scrapped.
What else have we had, oh 47791 part way through overhaul, several 20s as well, a number of 37s. Always a strange company - one of the better FOCs I'll admit, but their changes in management over the years has brought some odd decisions.

Firstly, I apologise if it sounded a criticism.

To be fair DRS have scrapped locos which were in a somewhat better condition, fair enough that wasn't as recent as you meant. For clarification 37416 and the like were scrapped around 2 years ago (how times flies!)

Wait a second, you were referring to this post by 'trac', which states in the past few years. I'd say that two years falls under 'the past few years'!

And of course turned down the offer of two 37/4s from Harry Needle - 37415 & 428 were long term Long Marston residents in the end. Only scrapped in 2013.

It was a bit strange that they sold off the worst of the 37/4s that they bought off DBS, instead of storing them temporarily, especially as they would now need them!

Case closed as far as I am concerned :)
