On friday night The 22.01 to Derby went via the usual route but the 22.00 to Birmingham went round the cut.
Regarding the Edinburgh Circle, there was massive public support for reopening in the 80s and 90s and i believe there has been such support since. But local government back then were completely disinterested. Instead the city got a pointless tram system where the money would have been better spent opening stations like Morningside and Cameron Toll. Now we have government inquiry into the tram fiasco which wastes even more public money.
Sorry I forgot to mention the stations that could open on the cut. These are sizeable townships ans the roads into Sheffield at peak times are awful. So these places would benefit from finally having decent public transport. Killamarsh, waterthorpe, beighton, Westfield, sothall, halfway. The lines either goes directly through or passes near these communities. I would suggest a free park and ride at every station. I realise in the current fragmented and uncoordinated way we do things now that free parking will never happen. It would however attract passengers. Or a combined season ticket with free parking included would be attractive as long as the price isn't excessive. Once again that's unlikely to happen. These are simple steps that would alieviate the massive traffic problems in and around Sheffield. sheffield station has plenty of platform space to accommodate extra trains. Each platform can hold around 16 coaches, maybe more. There aren't any full length trains anymore through Sheffield so there is a lot a unused platform space.
