Just interested to know what Neil Boden's plan for the Class 50s he's been buying and reactivating? Last I heard he had at least 3 (possibly 4?) and was looking to acquire another. Seems like an odd move unless he really loves 50s or has a contract waiting...

Which ones does he have now? 50008, 50017, 50050?

I'm glad to see them returning to the mainline, but I'm also cautious because in previous occasions one company buying loads of 50s hasn't ended so well... 50045 and so on.

That's what I was referring to yes. If I remember correctly they bought several, most of which are no longer with us.

Bit off topic, but who are Boden Rail? I don't really know anything about them.

To be fair there wasn't much left of them when Operation Collingwood bought them!

It's the company owned by Neil Boden, who owns quite a few locomotives. I've no idea how he made his cash or what he does though. Presumably a businessman of some kind?

His company maintain the Washwood Heath based Colas fleet (56s and 47s), and they also do some work on preserved locos.

Cheers Boothby97.

So do I understand that nobody actually knows what work he has lined up for the Class 50 fleet? I didn't know whether someone 'in the industry' had heard rumours. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Just bumping this, rather than starting a new thread, to see if anyone's heard any more about what the 50s are being collected for?

You may be right. I was more wondering whether it was any clearer why he has the few that he has - have they been put to work on a contract or anything like that? It just seems odd to me that someone would buy a small fleet of locos like 50s (rather than 37s or 47s which are so versatile and numerous) and spend money mainlining them without a contract or intended use lined up...

Boden Rail 50017 worked an Ely - Washwood Heath service on Tuesday 23/6/15. I saw it at Nuneaton - it was dragging a single track machine.

Ah, so that goes some way to explaining why it also turned up at Tyseley last week. I wasn't expecting to see a NSE liveried 50 stabled there!

Can anyone bring us up to date re: what contracts Boden has for the 50s?
From what I have noticed, they seem to be the AA of the rails (?)

Railtour work (as of yesterday), the occasional steel train from Boston to Washwood Heah and loco movements, among other things.
