Ideally you will hold a current driving licence.

Shift times will vary between early and late, including weekend working. The post covers a 35 hour week. Due to the nature and extremities of the shift pattern you will be required to live within a maximum 45 minute drive from the depot applied for.


For trainee train drivers - during the first year of intensive training the reference salary is GBP 23,960 per annum.

As a newly qualified driver the reference salary will be GBP 33,297, after 6 months GBP 35,558 and after 9 months GBP 38,193.

On successful completion of all training and probation the reference salary is GBP 42,158 per annum.

I have applied but no response yet, just automated one saying application received.

It was the 12th June so it must've been extended... I haven't heard anything from my application.

I also applied for this, got an automated reply saying application received. I don't live near Dumfries but told them I would relocate.

Well, I live a long way away from Dumfries but did state that I would be happy to relocate.

Never applied for a Scot Rail position before Donhamer.

I applied 2 years ago and passed the initial assessments and was put forward for interview. I waited weeks for an interview date before being told the position has been withdrawn. Apparently they were looking for 2 trainees but only took on 1.

I don't know if someone transferee in from another depot or whatever.

Have you heard anything back from Scotrail yet?

Just received a rejection email this morning. I think it may be because I applied for an Abellio position earlier. I believe they are now incorporated companies.

I got the same Daid, I think I messed up the application form.

Don't be too disheartened, 2 years ago I got the rejection email followed by a train pass for the assessment day 4 days later!!

Can't see it happening this time though!

Just to give you a heads-up. There is no on-line assessments' or telephone interview. I believe those who have been successful after initial application and the sift are invited to undertake the first part of the Assessments' IE: TEA-Occ Concentration test, Group Bourdon Safety Test, Train Ability Part One and
Train Ability Part Two. Those who are successful at this stage will, I assume be asked to sit the second part of the Assessment. A group of applicants will be sitting the fist part of the assessments' as of this week.

Did anyone get through then? Outwith my area and unable to move so that I would be within the permitted distance/time from dumfries station but I'm keen to hear what the selection process involves and what kind of timeframe it's all done within.
Sorry to hear some people have had rejection emails, I know I'll more than likely get a few when I start applying for drivers jobs!
