We then take the 14:05 Dungeness buses service to Seattle, WA - Amtrak Station 303 South Jackson Street arriving at 16:40 on Friday afternoon.

How I love this city!

Pic 1: A lit up Seattle taken from the Ferry to Bremerton.
Pic 2: A few trains at Interbay yard.
Pic 3: Seattle from a different ferry to Bremerton. Spot the Space Needle.

Seattle is definitely high up on my list of places I need to visit!

We have some time until our next service leaves, so we are able to explore Seattle for an hour or so. Our next move takes us onto Amtrak's Cascades service, and we board Train 509 at 18:05. We take the train as far South as Portland, OR, USA; arriving at 21:45 on Friday evening.

I think we need to hold here a moment.

We then board United Flight 6294, taking off at 1750 and touching down at San Francisco Intl. 78 minutes later - 1908. It's still Friday.

Hold on, that isn't Friday, it's Saturday! And Saturday's flight leaves at 17:53-19:12.

We decide we'd like another continent, so take Air New Zealand NZ007 at 2145 for the flight to Auckland International Airport, New Zealand, arriving at 0545 Saturday morning

http://timetables.oag.com/itt/sfo/

As has been noted by the subsequent posts, it's a Sunday morning arrival. However, as we actually should have left on Saturday, it's a Monday morning arrival. (The flight operates 7 days a week, so that's not a problem)

From here we take the 06:15 Quantas plane to Sydney, Australia arriving at 07:55 on Sunday morning
That's operated by LAN as flight 801, with a codeshare by Qantas. It is 7 days a week, so still an acceptable move on Monday morning.

We then board the 0827 Sydney Trains service T2 to Circular Quay, arriving there at 0848 on Sunday morning.

As far as I can see, this remains a valid move, albeit on Monday morning.[/pedant]

As we leave the station, the stunning Opera House looms in the distance. Eager for a better view, we take the Harbour City F3 Ferry at 09:07, which not only gives us a great view of the building, but also takes us right under the Harbour Bridge. We then head up the Parramatta River, choosing to alight at Meadowbank Wharf at 09:57 on Monday Morning.

However, we trip upon leaving the train, and trapping our leg in the closing doors. At first, we think nothing of it, but when we see blood gashing out from our knee and experiencing massive pain with our ankle, we hobble out of the station and board the 1047 State Transit 288 bus, arriving at Macquarie University, University Av - Stand A, Marsfield, NSW, AUS. A quick check of our watch tells us the time is 10:56 on Monday.

The bleeding settles down and it turns out it's just a small graze. Good thing, since we're nowhere near the hospital!

So, rather than check in, we chance it and continue on the 11:02 State Transit number 292 service towards Sydney. We alight at the busy Lane Cove Interchange at 11:34 on Monday morning.

There's a huge number of buses at that interchange according to Google Maps! That's why I dumped us there. Seems to be a bus to Sydney every few minutes and out to various other places too. You had many more options than just waiting half an hour.

We then take the 19:26 NSW service to Victoria Street Station, East Maitland arriving at 20:17 on Monday evening.

From Victoria Street, we switch onto a CDC bus 181 service bound for Rutherford, which we take to Rutherford Shops (West Mall), arriving at 20:55 on Monday evening.

That's it for tonight, so we get dinner at KFC before checking in at the Old Maitland Inn. We awaken at 0756 to catch the 0806 CDC 179 bus as far as River Road New England Hwy, Windella, NSW, AUS - arriving at 0830 Tuesday morning.

There are trains, but they're more than one kilometre away, so we can't use them...

We see rather excitedly that there's an airport nearby, but sadly no commercial services from the small general aviation facility. We watch the small planes taking off whilst we wait for the 09:50 CDC 180 bus towards Singleton Heights. We alight at 10:13 on Tuesday morning at
the oddly named stop at Top Shop Milk Bar Bridge St, Branxton, NSW, Australia.

The rules say nothing about the use of general aviation: what's stopping us copiloting a Cessna or Maule to another airstrip?

Anyway, we make the 750m walk to the train station and board the 1054 Hunter Line service to Victoria Street, E Maitland, NSW, AUS, arriving at 1117 Tuesday morning.

They ban use of cars and taxis - that would effectively be an air car or taxi depending on whether piloted or self drive

We take the next southbound train from Broadmeadow at 1239 and ride all the way to Central (Sydney) arriving at 1526 Tuesday afternoon

It's then three hours of trainspotting before our 1812 Southern NSW Line (Service no. 635) to Canberra, AUS arrives. When we arrive, we look at the station clock to reveal the time as being 1030 on Tuesday night.

Canberra looks like a beautiful city, albeit quiet at this time of night. We step out of the station, which is actually in a small suburb called Kingston, and catch the 22:42 ACTION 200 bus service to the Canberra City Bus Station, arriving there at 23:02 on Tuesday evening. We are dismayed to see an overnight bus to Melbourne leaving just as we pull in.

This conveniently leaves us just a short walk from the airport. So we have a look at the departure boards to see where we head next. Despite being the Capital City, we can only really choose to fly to major Australian destinations from here it seems. There's a lot of flights heading back towards Sydney, but deciding to explore pastures new we instead choose to follow the bus we missed last night and board Virgin Australia flight VA256 to Melbourne Airport Terminal 3. The Embraer 190 pushes back at 08:35. It lands in Melbourne on 09:45 on Wednesday morning.

We feel an inexplicable urge to ride a maglev train, so we transfer onto China Eastern Flight CES738 (MU738) to Shanghai Pudong Intl, departing at 1100 and touching down at 19:20 on Wednesday.
