Just looking at the disruptions that are happening on the Liverpool St-Hertford East line this morning.

Trains are being re-routed via Hackney Downs, with many cancellations.

Looks like more than just one driver is off sick going by the frequency of cancellations. Not expected to have a normal service until 1645.

Thought one of the main routes to get to an airport would have had some degree of emergency staffing capacity.

Is there industrial action happening?

It's just the usual Abellio 50 shades of incompetence. I read somewhere last night (probably on here) that they had a driver shortage today and we're proactively cancelling services before they knew exactly how many they could run.

It's a summer Sunday, Sundays are outside of the working week, and drivers don't fancy driving trains today, they'd much rather be with their family and enjoying the sun... so that's what they're doing! Or there was a staff leaving do, or similar, last night and everyone went out for a drink!

Likely coupled with a work to rule or similar too, but the root of the problem is that lovely clause which says Sundays are optional!

I don't think Sundays are completely optional in the way LM and the ex Central parts of EMT are.

All drivers at AGA are on differing contracts depending on whether they worked for WAGN, First Great Eastern or Anglia Railways.

They should come clean if it is an overtime ban
If I were the fat controller I would prioritise airport trains above all others even if you are early for a flight time you get the coach to Stansted your 2 hrs to book in will be running short . may be OK on a scheduled flight but if you have an easy jet or ryan flight you are going to be bug******
After all if you are going on a short trip the bus is a possibility..mmmm ,,forgot they lost a load of drivers and trains to TFL

I guess that in urban areas and particularly Greater London, there's usually always another way to get where you're going.

From the train operator's point of view I can see why they wouldn't want Sundays part of the normal working week- even if you take any premium payments out of consideration, there's still the potential for engineering works and so on to leave you with train crew rostered to work but no service for them to run, and leaving them either unavailable or entitled to overtime for working elsewhere in the week. Unfortunately it's not a situation that anybody has been able to solve to the satisfaction of all parties in twenty years of trying!

How can you prioritise trains to any extent? If the driver will not come off his/her diagram that fat controller is screwed.

Not Abellios greatest weekend on the stanstead route on saturday they could not run trains through Liverpool St/ Harlow town to cambridge/stanstead Airport due to overhead wire problems.

And on sunday they had a lack of drivers on said route.

Though to be fair they were not entirely to blame.

AGA appear to be like a rabbit caught in the headlights at the moment. This evening, stood on Stratford station, a platform change was announced just as the train was pulling into the station - cue chaos. I'm sure that other parties are involved, but when you're running a TOC you have to be aware that you're the public face and make sure that those other parties do their bit.

Not much they can really do if the signaller has to replatform the train at short notice. It isn't something they do deliberately just to annoy pax, and if things are going a bit wonky then its better to get the train in any platform rather than leaving it stuck at a signal and having a queue build up.

In all fairness you see a lot of commuters with their eyes buried in their mobile device or with their ears in and no matter how many times staff say over the PA there is a platform change they will continue to where they normally catch their train and then complain about the lack of information when they miss it. There was a points failure in platform 10 all trains where going through 10A.

Good to know the reason, but at the time my train was diverted to 10A, the next train, due a few minutes later, was still shown as arriving at 10, even though that clearly was not going to happen if there had been a points failure.

However you are right about passengers not hearing announcements, seen it many times - maybe there should be an increase in volume or something, because there are a lot of announcements at Stratford; it's fairly natural for commuters to tune them out.

Is there a problem on AGA west Anglia we do not know about?
Just for fun I check the local rail operators for problems ( retired! do not get out enough )
over the last few days there have been lots of cancellations on Cambridge and Stansted lines " due to shortage of drivers "
is there a dispute?

People who live under the flight path at airports don't hear the planes. The brain is incredibly good at filtering out what it isn't interested in.
