As a novice user of the Routeing Guide, it looked at first sight as if route combination "PD+LB" for Guildford-Brighton would allow travel via Havant - but map PD shows nothing east of Havant, and LB shows nothing west of Arundel. (But then again, I am not sure what route PD+LB does actually permit between Guildford and Brighton from the maps as shown). Online booking systems say "No tickets are available, please refine your search".

Is the route actually valid?

Thanks

John

I think that you are right that there are no permitted routes from Guildford to Brighton (or Hove) that involve travel via Havant. But you can travel on a single ticket from Guildford via Havant to stations between Havant and Hove (but not Hove itself). It may be that a Guildford to Shoreham-on-Sea ticket, plus a Shoreham-on-Sea to Brighton ticket, may serve your purposes, but you would have to be sure to be on a train that called at Shoreham-on-Sea (which is why a ticket from Guildford to one of the stations between Shoreham-on-Sea and Hove may be less useful).

Edit: it may be cheaper overall to buy to Portslade rather than Shoreham-on-Sea, as Guildford-Portslade is the same price as Guildford to Shoreham-on-Sea

Alternatively buy a Guildford-Shepherds Well ticket routed via Barnham. It's a couple of pounds cheaper than splitting at Portslade or Shoreham-by-Sea.

It's often worth buying a ticket to somewhere you're not going. Perhaps bizarretickets.com is called for?!
