Morning folks,

I currently work for a transpennine TOC up in the 'norf' but applied for the SW trains Guards Manager post they recently advertised. My missus is wanting to relocate to the Isle of Wight area so it seemed a no brainer tbh.

I was just wondering how the wage, terms & conditions and working schedule would compare to my current £31k annual wage last year?

Anyone know?

Well commercial guards at SWT are on about 35/36, so I assume it would be very slightly north of that. Guards and com guards are currently on 42 hr 5 day week.

As a manager, and a SWT stagecoach manager at that, you'd be expected to be available 24/7 for all the hours to get job done.

If you want stability I wouldn't advise it, guards managers move around quite a bit from depot to depot and relocating to the IOW would be quite restrictive and would be outside the '30 minutes commute' rule.

However, seeing as you are applying to be my new manager do you need any favours?;)

 just coffees.

Matt what's it like as a company? Obviously we all have our gripes and issues but in general, are they so bad? I work for a Transpennine service (narrows it right down when I live Newcastle currently). Doesn't necessarily need to be on the IOW but that area she loves.

Best way to sum up my opinion is to say that I sincerely hope Stagecoach retain the franchise in 2017! I've had 15 trouble free years so far and I would like that to continue.

Free travel on EMT by the way, plus Priv rates on Hoverdraft and ferries to the IoW.

Which is why 2 Guildford driver managers lived down Pompey way?;)

75% discount priv rates or different? Sounds good to me tbh. They said on the phone 45mins but all other TOCs up this way are 60mins so may ask how flexible it is at interview if I get that far. Genuine question with me relocating the length of the country.

Any areas of Southampton/Portsmouth/Bournemouth to avoid at all costs property wise? Rental initially

I wouldn't bank on the salary being higher than that of a Commercial Guard. That's typically not how it works. I'd expect it to be around the £30k mark, plus a bonus at the end of the year dependent on performance.

Asked outright and it will be slightly north of the £35600 a commercial guard earns. By how much I don't know. What's the regional allowance down there?

As an update I've had my online assessment and should I progress, interviews are September 14th in Fratton.

Our travel is free on EMT and SWT but as of tomorrow we also get free travel on VTEC through the use of 5x48hr 'boxes' which I'm rather looking forward too! We don't get the London allowance but we do get the SE allowance although I don't recall the actual figure.

Well I had my interview and assessment day yesterday. Not overly confident I did too well in the interview as I had to come back to one question and have 2 repeated, although I did give answers in the end. Nerves :( Worst thing is I've still had no word back yet, although there were also some in for Guards stage 2 and Driver assessments.

Don't be surprised if you have a bit of a wait for the outcome as this isn't uncommon.

Re the SE Allowance, not sure about management roles as I know certainly some managers don't get any.
