Thanks for the replies. Are the coaches stabled at Guildford or elsewhere?Official line being "Graffiti attack that contained words of an offensive nature" [emoji38]
What kind of sick person would write such awful and hurtful things such as "South West Trains" on the side of the rolling stock?wensley said:Official line being "Graffiti attack that contained words of an offensive nature"
Stored in the down sidings at Guildford, this is the umpteenth graffiti attack on stock stored in there.
They were told not to reinstate the sidings, because of vandalism, did they listen? No, it has cost them a small fortune in cancellations & repairs/cleaning.
The houses are not so cheap but that makes no difference it seems. People can live anywhere and graffiti the trains. Wonder what they do during the day?And there was me thinking Guildford was posh!
I'm surprised they don't have CCTV there to catch them.
I thought this wasn't the first time it had happened. No doubt it won't be the last.
The station itself is open until 1.30am but is staffed 25 hours. I suppose it's to far away to hear anything from the sidings.

Does the CCTV need to be discrete? In plenty of stations I see CCTV cameras which are not discretely placed. They have CCTV on a couple of building nearby, however the fencing on the walking route is dilapidated and easy to circumvent. There are also 3 security gates en route too, however if you circumvent the fence, they just cut across the tracks and straight into the sidings.
The trains have FFCCTV but they don't seem to have caught them as yet. So the vandalism will continue indefinitely and so will the cancellations. The only ways to stop them is to put a security fence all around the sidings and install discreet CCTV, but will SWT pay for that? I doubt it.
The cheapest method is to stop berthing trains in there altogether, however that means that they'll have spent well over £1m for nowt, but you have to balance that against the cost of the amount of damage caused & the cost of the ensuing delays & cancellations.

I guess they could vandalise the CCTV camera but perhaps in doing so they would be spotted.
Not very proactive thinking on the part of the TOC someone sprayed names and slogans on my back fence ( Footpath at back ) I got a spray can black from the £1 shop and over sprayed the letters so it was just a load of squares meaning nothing
The train Co could have done that in about 10 mins and kept the train in service and sorted it after the rush hour
Who would have done it?
This is the problem, back in the days of BR if the station staff noticed it prior to the station opening, then they would have spent time cleaning so that the train is presentable.
Now station staff are not allowed to do anything like that anymore.
On another thread about non-functioning toilets, someone asked rhetorically whether we'd prefer a train to run, or to be cancelled due to a lack of a bog.
On a similar note, I think I'd prefer a train to run rather than be cancelled due to some naughty words,

I am most surprised to learn that a 25 hour clock applies in Guildford...hock:
So that explains why it keeps getting vandalised. It sat weirdos with webbed hands!Yes. It's located on the planet Zarg.
There are some real weirdo's down there, with tails, webbed hands & green eyes! [emoji38] And that's just the station staff.
