Whilst waiting for a train this morning and looking on RealTime Trains I noticed that 5Z40 was due to pass Woodlesford on it's way from Neville Hill to Monk Bretton loop.
According to RTT it then was due to sit there before making the return joiurney as 5Z41 about 3 hours later.
Just curious - but what is this train and why does it do what it does?
Thanks

A link to the schedule on RTT would be useful since it does not have the facility to search by headcode.

But you can search by location. So putting Woodlesford in the "location" field and looking at all the STP's through there today gives you amongst other things a 5Z40 and 5Z41:

Some sort of proving run for a unit just out of maintenance?

Just a guess - a Northern unit going onto the branch for 'skidpan' (low rail adhesion) training?

Yeah, I suspect it was driver training as they do runs down there - covers a very rare chord too, IIRC. As Timnick has said, it's usually low adhesion training they carry out on that line

How can you find out the linkage between the 2 trains from RTT. Or is it just similarity the of the two services.

In this case if you look at RTT for the whole day for the destination location, they must be the same unit arriving and returning, because there are no other relevant moves.

Yeh either skid pan training or driver training , did it on our course, runs via turners lane. Part of northerns training involves taking trainee down for 2 or 3 days to have a practice at driving a train after the months of classroom training.

Yes it does. Quick search bar.

Never used that before.

Good to know. :D

No one I know actually knows the existence of this function, so it may be worth making that clearer on RTT, as it certainly is a useful function.

Indeed, shame it only works for the current day, and xxx to yyy works but not xxx from yyy from my limited testing :P

Sometimes you just gotta experiment and see what happens ;)
