THE RAIL line near Dawlish has been closed as a safety precaution after a member of staff of a train spotted rocks falling from a cliff.

The line is currently closed between Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids while Network Rail carry out inspections to make sure that the line is safe.

This comes on the same day that the walkway at Dawlish was officially re-opened after the storm damage in 2014.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "A member of staff travelling on a train reported they saw some rockfall from a cliff near Parsons Tunnel at Holcombe, between Teignmouth and Dawlish

Well, glad I'm on me holidays far away.....

Ooh Parsons Tunnel again. The same area where a developer wanted to develope the space on the cliff right above the unstable red rock. I hope the two aren't connected? Not the best of days for it to happen though unfortunately with the "grand opening" of the sea wall path again.

Reopening shortly. Got a mate who's decided to go back to the new Wetherspoons in Teignmouth & that's very busy.

It's been a difficult day for XC services; these problems down in Devon, coupled with the overhead wire problems up North have impacted NE - SW services fairly severely. The 15:23 Plymouth - Leeds being cancelled, and then it being reinstated from Bristol but later cancelled couldn't have come at a worst time!
