Today I was on the 13:47 to Warrington Bank Quay, the train was delay more than 30 minute because of anti-fascist march outside Liverpool Lime Street. Over 50 Police attend around the station and in the area. But I can't understand why delay the train because of march didn't come in the station at all.
The police was checking inside trains and stood in some of trains before they can leaving seem to me a waste of time by the time train was finally leaving the Lime station and stop again in a queue of traffic at tunnel few yards after the station.
At Earlestown railway station on the platfrom 3, the train stop and it didn't not move more than a 2 minute. The driver told everyone to get off. So we had to wait other 37 minute for other train to come in on platform 3. Delay was add more than a minute at Winwick Junction waiting for the Virgin train to pass very frustration day!
Is the police are to blamed for the disputed?

Weren't the actual neo-nazis, the cause of all the problems in the first place, holed up in Left Luggage in Lime Street?

Looking on social media, there was considerable disruption inside Liverpool Lime Street itself.

There were some extreme right wing protestors who wanted to hold a march but they weren't allowed out of Lime Street station by local protestors who basically sent them packing.

Edited, as I see you were heading out. If you were at Lime Street Station at quarter to two, I don't really see how you could be oblivious to what was going on around you to be honest!

The police are not to blame for anything in this really. They wanted the area for platforms 1-6 clear to try and get the trouble makers away. And indeed did so on a special service 2T14 ( albeit asfar as edge hill ). They had them " protected " in the btp office in rail house then took them to the train via platform one.

Passing Edge Hill at about 14.40 today there were two 150s standing in the station, c.12-15 policemen and a significant number of young men with short hair wearing dark clothing.

I wonder if they'd been turned back at Lime Street and then tried to bail out at Edge Hill in order to head back into the city?

Yeah ! Don't have a clue why there , but the whole station was cornered by demonstrators so if they took them out any other way they would have been mobbed even more than they had been

Were you using predictive text to get that?

Just because you can't see the bad guys doesn't mean they don't exist! ;)

Brilliant

Least cost I imagine. Dump them at Edge Hill and let them take care of themselves from there.

That it happens to be in the middle of nowhere (in a rough part of town) is just... unfortunate... :D

Yeah there were some disturbing scenes as there always is with this kind of thing, but it is quite a funny sight to see these supposedly tough guys hiding away in Lost Property after being shouted at by a bunch of angry scousers!!

The disturbance at Liverpool is in the Daily Mail tonight.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...lashes-anti-fascist-protesters-Liverpool.html

I feel sorry for the passengers, police and rail staff being caught up in this as both National Action and Unite Against Facisim "protests" by both groups often turn violent and cause a great deal of disruption when their members get het up. Well done to the Police though for dealing with the situation the best the could today.

I'm not a huge fan of bundling protestors off, no matter how vitriolic their views, because most people would and should, considering events in the last century, be able to ignore extremely held views by walking past them and ignoring them, instead you give the flame oxygen.

Also, it would have been good to see these so called extremists in the flesh to see if any were well-known and to put names to faces.

How on earth did I manage to miss all of this? I walked through Lime Street at about five to two and saw nothing whatsoever untoward.

While this is amusing, particularly the white supremacist hard men having their big day out ruined and the image of them locked up in Lost Luggage, I don't have much respect for either side really. The anti-fascist side often seems to contain a good number of wannabe anarchists piggybacking on the cause for the sake of a good day out causing chaos...

What I'd like to know though is how much it cost to get all those guys out of Lost Luggage? Those places charge rip off prices for retrieving possessions, I'd hate to think what retrieving a person costs!

It used to be said (mythically) that Mussolini made the trains run on time - his successors seem to have the opposite effect.

I once knew someone who went on these far right EDL marches and he mentioned at one of the demonstrations in Luton his coach was told to pull over at Newport Pagnell services on the way down so that it could have a police escort all the way into Luton. He also mentioned that Bedfordshire Police were providing a free shuttle bus from Luton train station to the site of the demonstration for any EDL members and I though what a massive waste of taxpayers money, I think the total bill that day was £2 Million.

The UAF protesters though are just as bad sometimes worse while they claim to be "peacefully protesting" many of they demonstrations turn violent and often get out of hand.

What do the train companies normally do when the demonstrations are on and they know they will have a large number of disruptive passengers?

Have I understood this correctly?
Despite the unsavoury nature of the passengers, and with no advance notice, a unit and crew were assembled to provide an unscheduled service.
Clearly we have a can-do railway - not the usual image these days!
Who gets the bill for chartering this special?

Last time the EDL did a march in Luton, they even brought in Officers from the Metropolitan Police.

Other towns and cities ban them from marching. Someone at Luton Borough Council and/or the Bedfordshire Police must really love the EDL. I mean, they have an abysmal performance record yet they can protect these troglodytes...

Goodness knows mate. Ha ha. I hung around Lime Street for about an hour and left on 13:52 to South Parkway. When I left there were still left wing protesters with flags sat on top of those timetable columns and a large crowd around around left luggage, not to mention people chanting "Master race, you're having a laugh".

I think the whole thing was policed really well considering the potential for violence. I understand there were some scuffles and arrests but it was largely peaceful. I get some peoples argument that both sides are as bad as each other, and without doubt there was a number of people in the anti fascist protest that had Anarchist flags and had their faces covered, but the vast majority were ordinary scousers without any affiliation to protest groups.

Whilst some may have been intimidated by a large and loud crowd I didn't see large numbers of people who appeared to be terrified as reported by some in other media. In fact I saw several families passing through explaining to their kids what was going on. The kids just seemed interested.

You see mate that sums up the Daily Mail. "Rival groups fought" suggests some kind of riot. I was stood a couple of yards away and that isn't what happened. The nazis where penned in surrounded by police and the anti fascists were chanting, a couple of bananas got chucked at the nazis.

Like I say I was stood a few yards away taking photos and no one bothered me. As always though the Daily Mail try and make it sound like carnage because that sells papers.

Caught the 12:47 to Euston from Lime Street after a night out in Liverpool.

Got to the station about half an hour before hand, which was about 5 minutes before the anti-fascist march arrived. There was a large police presence, who looked to be doing a good job. The nazi's had already been pinned into the area in the luggage recovery, and while there were a few minutes of protestors going into the station en-mass, there was no obvious violence, and just chanting of 'Nazi scum, off our streets'.

Staff and police were doing well with a potentially dangerous situation, with the customers coming off the previous Virgin arrival being directed by staff towards the exit at the other end of the station. Plenty of police both inside and outside the station, who did well with several different protest groups in place. There was also police located outside most of the pubs in the area beforehand, clearly mindful of what could happen. (The Whetherspoons in the station was closed by the locality of the Nazi protest to their entrance, and again was being guarded by officers)

The local news last night described it as 'some shuffles' between groups and said the right wing group called off their march because only a small number turned up and they were outnumbered by police, never mind the anti-fascists.

Sounds about right, it looked as if only 20-30 nazi's turned up, and thus were all able to fit in the luggage shop. Also, the police line which surrounded the right wing group meant that the anti-fascit's couldn't even reach them anyway.
