Daily Zone 1-3 thameslink fare advice

Hi all,

Been trying to work out myself online but lots of contradictory stuff so maybe someone can help me out?

I travel from Cricklewood Thameslink station to city Thameslink monday-friday on the morning trpically getting the 6.39 train (occasionally the 6.27) and then returning normally around 7pm on the same route. I also obviously sometimes use tfl for other things on weekends, though almost never go outside zone 3.

I have an 18-25 railcard - not sure what is the best option, get an annual zone 1-3 pass or get an oyster and add my railcard to it? Anyone any ideas?

One option available to you is a season ticket from Cricklewood to "London Thameslink" for £936/year (over £500 less than a travelcard). This allows you unlimited travel on Thameslink services as far south as Elephant & Castle or London Bridge. If you wanted to go anywhere else in the weekends you could use an Oyster card.

Can you still buy a season ticket to 'London Thameslink'? I only ask as this would be a useful ticket for me in future, but Southern's season mixing deck defaults to a Z1-6!

Yes you can, but not from anywhere on Southern's network, as London Thameslink is only valid from certain origins on the MML. Which origin did you use?

OK. If what you say above is correct then definitely get an Oyster and add your 16-25 Railcard to it. If you touch in before 0630 on the way in and touch in after 1900 on the way home then both journeys will be charged off-peak with railcard discount. You get 2-3 minutes grace either side of the peak periods so 0632 and 1858 will probably be still off-peak if it helps.

Very good spot, I hadn't noticed the times. The off-peak railcard discounted Oyster single for this journey costs £1.60 each way (£3.30 in the peaks), so if the OP travels every single weekday and up to 30 more days they'll still spend less than £936 if they never do get to the station too late for an off-peak touch in

In cases like that, you'd need to buy a season to St. Pancras or Cricklewood or somewhere instead to gain the benefit of validity through Thameslink.
