Hi Everyone,

Looking for a bit of sound advice here from the experts.

I have a Zones 1-2 and was wondering if there was a better way of getting to Watford Junction than buying a Euston - Watford Junction ticket?

Could I purchase a ticket starting at the edge of Zone 2? I think there may be a problem that alot of trains I would be getting are direct from Euston to Watford, so I wouldn't be going through the station the NR ticket started at.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Colin

What Zones 1-2 do you have? A season ticket I assume? Weekly? Annual? There are some words missing in your post I think.

You can buy a Boundary Zone 2 - Watford Junction paper ticket £6 single, £7.30 day return if travelling after 0930, otherwise £11.70

Sorry, further details below

It's a Zones 1-2 monthly oyster.

I travel at peak times, so last week purchased a one week ticket from euston to Watford junction for £73.

Just wondering if there are any better options. Would be keen to keep to a week, for flexibility though.

If you already had in your possession the Zones 1-2 travelcard, you only needed a ticket to cover you from Zone 3 onwards. A Watford Junction - London Zones 3-6 weekly season would have been cheaper at £56.60. This ticket, in combination with your existing season ticket, would have allowed you to use any service between Watford Junction and the london zonal area, express or stopping. You also have the benefit of validity across Zones 1-9.

Stop!

Is this travelling from Euston to Watford in the morning and return in the evening? If it is then just use PAYG on your Oyster card which will deduct the pricely sum of £1.70 for each journey! This is because contra-peak travel on that line is charged at off-peak rates and with the zones 1-2 travelcard on your Oyster you'll only pay for zones 3-W.

Even if it is the other way round it's only £4 single for 3-W or £40 for a 5 day week.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info, yes i travel at about 7am from Euston and return from Watford at about 6pm.

So you think using my Oyster PAYG with my zone 1-2 is the best idea?

Definitely! £17/week if you make 10 single journeys.

Amazing! Thank you very much. That's just reduced by cost from £73 to £17, it will pay for the coffee at Pret! If only everyone knew this info.
