Evening All,

Travelled today on the 11:47 NR service from Reddish North to New Mills Central, 14:06 back to Marple, then 17:10 from there back to RDN, all were 2x142, is this now the norm on Sunday's or is there some special event taking place?

The express from Leeds to Nottingham was a double 158 today, as opposed to being a single one as is usually the case.

An event at Sheffield perhaps ?

I searched for events in Manchester before starting the thread but couldn't find anything significant, just done the same for Sheffield and can't see anything there either, just as we arrived at Reddish for the 11:47 an EMT 158 was passing through in the Manchester direction so obviously diverted from its normal route via Stockport, just wondering if it's something rail related?

Maybe mine was a stock move then. The only thing I know of is the blockade between Moorthorpe and Sheffield leading to various unusual things going along the Hallam line.

Were your 158s both in use? I never thought to ask the conductor on one of the 142s, I'll say this though it made for a far more comfortable/relaxing travelling experience. (even on a 142)

These service were doubled up because of the issues that EMT have had over the last few Sunday's. As it happened EMT ran a full service yesterday but the extra capacity was useful as Manchester City were at home

Ah, I see, thanks for that,

It would be great if it was run that way every Sunday, even a Pacer is quite acceptable when it's not rammed,

Though sadly I realise it won't happen.

Are we talking about EMT or Northern because you wouldn't find a Pacer on an EMT train.

I'm presuming the EMT Issues Thomas6187 is referring to are the short forming of some of the 158 operated services between Nottingham-Sheffield-Liverpool, it makes sense now why NR Nottingham-Leeds also had double 158s in use and NR Hope Valley locals were likewise strengthened with 2x142s, full marks to Northern for doing so:D

I'd assumed the EMT issues being referred to were the staff shortages which occured on Sun 2nd Aug leading to cancellation of Nor - Liv service west of Nottingham. The short forming is generally a weekday problem when stock is most stetched.

Ah, I see, hadn't heard about that, thanks for putting me right.
