I've searched very hard on the ever useless internet. The Italian Wikipedia page says (in Itailian) that some units are assigned to Sienna aswell as some in Turin and several places in the far south. That's all I can find. So I guess some will run on that line.

Thanks for your response - that's about as far as I got as well. They seem to do the Siena - Firenze regional express services, which run hourly, so will have a look.

And it's a nice part of the world to bash diesels in as well! When I was last in Tuscany, I put that line on my "to do" list at some point in the future.

Hello,
on Siena Empoli route there are trains to Empoli and other to Florence (all trains to Florence stop in Empoli).

The trains to Firenze, usually, are pulled by D 445 diesel locomotives. Trains to Empoli are DMUs ALn 501/502 (Minuetto) or ALn 668. In the future also ATR 220 (Swing) will run to Empoli.

The effective type of rolling stock depends by the real situation (traffic, delays, maintenance, breakdowns), so program can be changed.

Other D 445 locomotives work in Reggio Calabria, Taranto, Treviso, Cremona, Torino (freight) and Cagliari.
