Zugspitzbahn & FIP

Hi, There used to be a very handy list of private German rail companies that don't accept FIP travel facilities:-

1) Can anyone provide a link to it. And,

2) Specifically are the Zugspitz & ****-(no sniggering! )-bahn on it?

i.e. Do the above railways accept FIP or not?

The BayernTicket is only valid as far as Eibsee I think so FIP is probably not valid any further

Choose your ticket and it tells you who and what is acceptable. FIP is of course only valid on DB services as far as I am aware.

The no-sniggeringbahn is the same company as the Zugspitzbahn, so I'd expect the same answer for both.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like there are engineering works between München u. Garmisch Partenkirchen resulting in about an hour on a bus - the troops are revolting (at the best of times) and I don't think I can sell this trip. :cry:

So:-

Does anyone have ideas of a day trip from München to see some nice mountain & lake scenery (bier u. brätwurst is also de rigueur). We have 3x rail staff with a free FIP coupon and one adult public rate person. About 1hr. to 1 1/2hrs. from München would be fine.

Tegernsee / Gmund am Tegernsee? Just found it on the map, no idea what it's like, but only 55 mins on BOB, Bayerische Oberlandbahn, from Munich.

Tegernsee or Schliersee/Bayrischzell look worth it, though I haven't done either. I note that Tegernsee is not a DB Netze line, so you'd need to check re FIP.

There is also the Wendelsteinbahn rack and cable car AKA "the Poor Man's Zugspitze". Unfortunately the website is only partly in English.

The 1965 book "Railway Holiday in Bavaria" by JH Price describes a trip including a downhill walk from the summit station to Bayrischzell. Depending on energy levels a circular tour by rack railway and walk or rail and cable car looks interesting, and a near approximation to the Zugspitze.

Glad to summarise the German text if you need help.

There's also Berchtesgaden, or Chiemsee by steam tram and lake steamer to the Schloss. Not been on the lake myself.

Depends when the OP is travelling. Until 31 Aug its buses from Garmisch to Innsbruck, I didn't realise the arrangements for early Sept are different as above.

Travel by bus is as said from August 21 till 31. It is 20 minutes slower than by train, but think that you will not miss anything, but an open window and maybe connections in Innsbruck.

I second that. Chiemsee is definitely worth visiting, great location featuring lake + island, with mountains as the backdrop.

FIP is unfortunately not valid on Zugspitzebahn nor on any of the BOB lines from Munich. It's only valid on DB-operated services.

This, in my experience, is the problem with FIP esp. when you are travelling with non staff members. We can travel for free on the IC, EC, & RJ services but not the local trains to Chiemsee however our non staff friend can not use the Bayern Ticket on the IC, EC, or RJ but can travel on the local trains.

I know that we can each pay 5€ to join his Bayern Ticket and that is what we might just do.
