Does anyone have an idea of the likelihood of this problem betweeen Peterborough and Grantham not being fixed by morning?
(I realise it depends on many factors but is there anyone "in the know" out there?)
I am due to travel to KGX from West Yorks in the morning.
Cheers

On a train...somewhere!
Not looking terribly promising at the moment, trains are able to pass Northbound.
It all depends on what the OLE team find when they get in there - I'd be confident of a service, but there may be some residual delays.

Was sat in the car at Tallington Crossing for about 25 minutes earlier, whilst a NORTHBOUND Hull Train* crept slowly past on the UP slow, before REVERSING back onto the DOWN slow line, before then proceeding Northbound on the slow line.

The barriers went up, only to come back down again about 30 seconds later!!!

All Northbound trains are passing between Tallington & Greatford crossings (as far as I can see) on the Slow line....

Was there for nearly an hour in total - and didn't see ONE southbound train pass!!!

* According to Realtime trains - THIS was the Hull Train...

Still ongoing

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/105740.aspxTOC(s) affected East Midlands Trains; Grand Central; Hull Trains; Virgin Trains East Coast; Description
Overhead wire problems between Grantham and Peterborough are causing disruption between Grantham / Spalding and Peterborough. Repair work has been taking place all night and is still ongoing. It is expected to be completed by approximately 09:30. Until then, the following alterations will apply:
•A reduced service will run between Grantham and London Kings Cross
•No trains will run between Spalding and Peterborough
•Buses are running between Spalding and Peterborough
•Trains between Nottingham and Norwich will be diverted and not call at Grantham

When the repair work is complete, trains may still be disrupted until at least 13:00 as services return to normal.

Alternative travel options

Virgin Trains East Coast passengers may use:
•East Midlands Trains between Newark / Grantham and London St Pancras International via Nottingham
•Great Northern services between Peterborough and London Kings Cross

What exactly happened last night? Has a train brought down the wires? If so, which train was it? Many thanks

Apparently we now have a points failure south of Grantham causing more mayhem. Trains stacked up all over the place and crawling through Grantham at walking pace.

Further to my last - just seen two orange clad men walking down beside the freight loop at Grantham station carrying at least one furled flag and an absolutely giant spanner.

Up trains were sent via the Up Stamford which explains why electrics were all turned at Newark or Grantham (being the only track without juice). I was on 1S06 this morning, and we were 80 down at Donny having had substantial waits at Peterborough, Helpston and just south of Grantham due to congestion. The sight of three HSTs queuing up waiting to cross over to the slow lines at Tallington was quite surreal. especially with one being the EMT loan set 43055+43060. Also rare was the sight of a few East Coast managers setting up office in the Donny First Class lounge, mainly sorting out issues with catering.

It certainly did not look good when we went past the NR guys on site.

Just been north by road from Tallington, and there are at least four stranded trains visible. One by Dowmac Sidings at Tallington, one at Greatford LC ( which is closed to road traffic too) a VTEC HST set at Essendine, and another Hull Trains unit at Pickworth.

The problem is indeed at Werrington Junction, just slightly south of the junction with the Spalding line..

The Up Fast is the line affected, with at least a 6 foot gap between the two overhead wires...

I got caught up in these disruptions on the ECML this morning. I was originally scheduled to travel on the 0830 Kings Cross to Newcastle after an overnight stay in London, but that service was cancelled. The VTEC staff at Kings Cross advised me to take the 0800 Edinburgh service (headcode 1S07) to get to Newcastle, which I did. However, this service was forced to stop at Peterborough at around 0850 and was held there until after 1000 at least. By about 0930, the train guard advised passengers of the options to either postpone travelling until tomorrow or abandon travelling altogether and request a refund. I chose to do the latter, as by the time I may have got to Newcastle, there would be no guarantees that the return service I was going to use would turn up (the 1625 Newcastle to Kings Cross), and I can't start my journey from Kings Cross tomorrow so that option was a no-go.

It's a shame really, as I have been waiting nearly 3 months to do this journey (bought the tickets back on 29th May), but I guess that's the potential downside with buying cheap advances :P Hopefully I'll have better luck in November, as I've bought more tickets to try doing this journey again then, but starting from Peterborough rather than Kings Cross.

On a side-note, as has already been posted by Scotty, two of the three lines have been re-opened, but VTEC say delays of up to 90 minutes between Peterborough and Grantham are still expected.

Overhead wire problems between Grantham and Peterborough are causing disruption between Grantham / Spalding and Peterborough. Repair work has been taking place all night and two out of the three lines are now open. The following alterations will apply:

  • A reduced service will run between Grantham and London Kings Cross
  • Trains between Spalding and Peterborough will be delayed by up to 20 minutes.
  • Trains between Nottingham and Norwich will be diverted and not call at Grantham
  • Trains between Grantham and Peterborough may be delayed by up to 90 minutes

I guess I'll have to wait until later to find out how my journey home this evening will be disrupted.

Edit: Just checked VTEC website and it's not marked as cancelled (17:19 to Hull) but I suppose it's far too early to know for certain.

Hi.
Its not been a good day down the gn/ge either. As well as lots of passenger and a few freights being cancelled, there has been extra trains including a railtour turning up. These were trains that were listed, not diversions!
Theres been problems at gosberton yet again and trains terminating at spalding. Very few came or went to peterborough. Most probably peterborough psb didnt want platforms clogged up with skateboards!
On the plus side, we had a infrustructure train thru spalding with 5 gbrs tugging it! Yay :D

I travelled back from york this afternoon (14:02 ex york) and we moves slowly from just north of tallington into posh. I only noticed when travelling home to Oakham what a mess the wires were. Clearly some substantial damage. There was two road rail trucks on the line working on the wires but not a good day for sure

They were terminating at Spalding because the wires were down just south of Werrington Jcn, as Stampy posted earlier.

Saw a 91 being dragged by a 67 through Peterborough station at 1900 tonight. Looking at RTT it went via Cambridge to Bounds Green. Good news was that the girlfriends train was on time coming from the Cross

Catching the 0559 Newcastle-Doncaster HST tomorrow so hoping it at least avoids significant delay until there...
