Northern Class 319 question

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the 2 existing plated over door panels on the Northern Class 319s in the drivers cabs, were in the same position as they are now, prior to them entering service with Northern?

Do you mean the door controls on the drivers desks or the ones on the bulkhead wall behind the drivers seats?
The answer is yes to both but both have been modified with blanking plates as there are now no door controls in the cab.

I don't think the wiring has been changed as when the driver is keyed in, the panel interlock light still works and I am sure the bell button will still work too.

No, guards now have to do the doors from the saloon panels. Much to their chagrin I believe.

Yes as 507 states above the door controls are now situated by the passenger doors in every carriage in an attempt by Northern to make conductors 'more visible' .
A move not welcomed by conductors but unfortunately the RMT had to agree with it because it safeguards the role of the guard.

The panels on the bulkhead now only contain the interlock light and bell buzzer (which doesn't work - I've tried it!!)

The cab desk panels have had the 'door open' button blanked over but the door close button remains.

Things can be removed and placed back with equal ease.

There is also a bell buzzer on the desk. Try that one. Also remember it only works when you have interlock.

How does the Driver open the doors on PB ? What if they need to open the doors in an emergency ?

Bell buzzer on desk still works that's the one drivers us to give 'two back' when the guard gives us the ready to start signal.

On Northern we have an agreement that drivers don't operate passenger doors. This is done by the guard.
In an emergency I suppose we'd have to go into the passenger saloon and open them from there.

What about on PB ?

I prep them all the time and you need to release the doors etc :/ TBH it seems like a rather draconian measure. We aren't children and can refrain from pressing buttons and follow procedures professionally.

Still, I'll be glad to see the back of them

Not sure what a PB is?
However if it's to do with Prepping the unit and doing a door test it's simply done from the saloon door panels.

Have you tried it wit h a drivers key in? I suspect it may work then

Nope tried it with and without a key. Doesn't work.

I imagine it's because it takes them away from a droplight can door they can look out of to a passenger door with a fixed window which reduces their visibility along the train when starting away.

Pretty much what Driver 9000 says.
Also on a packed train the guard has to either remain at the passenger doors or fight his way to and from the back cab.
You may not wish to think this but trains do become aggressive and having a place of safety to work from is as important as the guard walking through the train selling tickets.

Can anyone confirm 319361-369/371-372/374-380/382/386 are the twenty 319s that have gone to Northern? I heard more might be on the way presumably to replace 323s etc

According to wiki 319372 is not with Northern but 319383 is?
