Yes, that is fine, you do not need a special ticket to use the Stansted Express.

Indeed; the Stansted Express is merely a brand name for thse express trains operated by Abellio Greater Anglia, a part of the National Rail network. The National Rail Conditions of Carriage apply as normal.

Stansted Express is not a Train Company and, even if it ever was split off as a separate company, tickets routed "Any Permitted" would still be valid.

Is it still cheaper to book through to Audley End or thereabouts and stop short?

Nothing turns up when you search the Easements list for either Audley End or Stansted.

Isn't there a negative easement which prevents stopping short on an Audley End ticket?
No! There was a temporary negative easement a few years ago when the line around the Harlow area was closed on some Sundays for engineering works, to prevent passengers from stations north of the blockade being routed by journey planners onto the express Stansted to London rail replacement buses instead of on the local RRBs to continue their journey by rail south of the blockade. But even this negative easement has now been removed.

Was that the easement that accidentally allowed Stansted to Elsenham via Scotland?

Im not sure of the legality of a negative "easement" preventing finishing short anyway, but maybe that's a discussion best left until - and if - there is an actual journey opportunity being denied under those circumstances.

rather than a Negative Easement, could the "Any Permitted" Elsenham, Newport and Audley End tickets be replaced with "Route: Not Airport"?

Considering a move to Memphis
On a similar topic, would a Stansted Airport - London Terminals ticket be valid on the Victoria line from Tottenham Hale - Euston or would I have to travel via Liverpool St ?

[ I would be travelling next Tuesday, using a single ticket, as my outward flight isn't from Stansted ]

I'm not sure about the £19 London Terminals ticket, but a Stansted to London Zones U123 at £21.20 gives you the train to Tottenham Hale (Zone 3) then the tube journey to Euston on the Victoria Line (Zone 1) for sure.

Not allowed, sorry. You need the Zone U123* ticket mentioned above

Of course, a Stansted Airport - Limehouse single at the same price would be valid for starting the cross-London transfer at Tottenham Hale and finishing short at King's Cross St P, or at a push Euston. Even if the former, it is not far to walk to Euston.

How is a Stansted - Limehouse single any more valid at Kings X than Euston?

You can do Stansted to Limehouse using a cross-London transfer by Underground from Tottenham Hale to Tower Hill (for Fenchurch Street), Kings Cross St Pancras is clearly on route for this transfer and you are allowed to stop short on a cross-London transfer (but you need another ticket if you want to resume the transfer journey later).

For Euston it's less obvious that it's a valid transfer route. I suppose you could argue that if you're doing Tottenham Hale to Bank (and walking from there to Fenchurch Street), then interchange from the Victoria to Northern lines is far easier at Euston than at Kings Cross.

The gates at Euston would accept it, and it's arguably a reasonable route.

Just to confirm, is a Liverpool Street/Tottenham Hale to Audley End (£16.75 16-25 railcard) return still the cheapest way of getting to Stansted and back to London? And is this still valid?

I'm off in under 30 days so can't get the cheap advance fare on Stansted express.
