Anyone know the criteria for the LCD screens above the seats on Virgins Pendolinos to display a name rather than Reserved/Available/Available until xxx?

I vaguely remember my name once appearing above my seat when the trains were first introduced and every so often I do see peoples names or business names above seats.

Names potentially only from Trainline bookings? Indeed I think they also print on the paper reservation slips on other operators.

I book my business travel through TheTrainline, and my name does appear.

I reserve my seats through Twitter for Virgin Trains services and they do come up with my name there. Paper reservations with CrossCountry are the same if they are reserved through Twitter.

Is that an automated system system (like CrossCountry's) or just the guy on the Twitter account!?

VT do seat reservations by Tweet?

Yeah.

Done via JourneyPlanner I'm sure. It's whatever goes in the surname box that goes on the screen.

Its just the bloke on the the Twitter Account, I think they get fed up of me to be honest. :D

If you direct message them (Virgin Trains don't need to follow you to do this) with the details of your train they will reserve a seat for you with your name on it. The only restriction is it has to be at least 2 hours before the train leaves its first station i.e. for the 11:48 at Stoke you would need to message them by 08:20 (2 hours before the train departs Euston). CrossCountry and East Midlands Trains offer the the same although for XC Turbostar services and all EMT services they need to have the details the day before. :)
