Question:
Do you listen to BBC Local Radio? If so, do you listen to your local 'home' station or do you listen to a station from another area.

For me, I live in the BBC Three Counties area but never listen to it; it's dull and very parochial.

However, I quite like Allan Beswick's late night phone on on BBC Radio Manchester.

What about you?

Nope never listen to BBC Tees. The only time I listen to the radio is when I'm in the car and then I either listen to Radio 1, my own music from my MP3 or podcasts.

Never had much time for local radio to be honest nor Look North (actual Look North not that fake Look 'North' you get in Yorkshire).

No. The spoken content doesn't compare to Radio 4 and the musical content isn't as varied and suited to my taste as Radio 2.

Every 20 or so minutes, not as bad as some.

Worst are some DJs who seem to enjoy the sound of their own voice and can talk for while around random stuff. Although I do enjoy a bit of Pat Sharp in the morning when he is covering on one local station

It depends on the DJ for me.

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Marconi always had something interesting to say on Radio 2. Wasn't Pat Sharp on Childrens TV in the 80's ?

*remembers the Mark & Lard show from years ago on radio 1* (only as the coach driver used to have it on when coming back from secondary school

Also I think he did some shows on other radio stations, just seems to pop up ever now and again (mainly doing 80s theme nights)

I always assumed that the Klaxon and excellent football coverage was common to all BBC local radio, but in my subsequent travels around the country, there's nothing to beat WM.

Radio Oxford for the footy commentary, which is great following OUFC as there aren't any other teams vying for coverage as there are elsewhere, such as 3 Counties covering Luton, Wycombe and Stevenage.

I listen to the news on Radios Merseyside & Manchester. Also to rugby league commentaries, and occasionally football commentaries. Trouble is there is insufficient "really local" coverage -and rather too much of what can be heard elsewhere on national radio (e.g. do they really need reviews of the contents of national newspapers - it would be more relevant to review the local press.)

Much of the music output is like a Radio 2 clone - mostly "safe"/ "predictable" (old pop hits, etc., rather than original, although Spencer Leigh programme on R. Merseyside is a notable exception.

I find that Radio 2 has a very wide range of music. Certainly has a lot of songs that one wouldn't expect to find on commercial stations.

I find that the myriad of stations that constantly regurgitate the charts are predictable.

That's the great thing about WM; with 3 big clubs in the region (Wolves, Villa, Blues) and a few smaller clubs, plus an insignificant one midway between Walsall and Halesowen, they still make it seem they are covering your club more than any other.

I sometimes listen to Radio Scotland in the mornings because I like Fred MacAulay's show, but other than that it's usually Radio 4 or whatever CDs are in the car.

Is Radio Scotland local radio? It's far better than any of the English BBC local radio stations I have come across. Lots of different music, news, sport and other interesting bits and pieces.

Normally listen to 6 music though.

Is Radio Scotland local radio?

Technically no, but it's as local as the BBC gets up here.

The fact that BBC Scotland is just that with various local news arms in places like Highlands and Borders is IMO Very poor. I find BBC Local Radio very good qualitty, e8en if not always my thing. In terms of what I listen too, BBC London and Radio Kent for the quality of them and out interest. Radio Cumbria is a fave too as I love that area.

I was an avid listener to BBC Tees when they covered the mighty Darlo - when they dropped us I began a boycott of BBC local radio that continue to this day

I know many people who only listen to the football coverage offered by BBC local radio and wouldn't dream of tuning in any other time.

I sometimes listen to BBC Radio Nottingham, however in the car it's usually Gem 106 or on those occasions when the conditions are just right, Lincs FM comes in clear as a bell.
