A Ticket to Ryde – 159 Special 19 September

I have booked both myself and my partner on this railtour.

My intention is to bash every inch of track including the steam railway on the Isle of Wight, plus shack attacking every station. As noted from the timings on the UK Railtours website (http://www.ukrailtours.com/product/a-ticket-to-ryde-2/), we will have at least 6 hours or so on the island, having checked the RTT website as well.

Is it possible to complete all of what I intend to do in the allotted timescale?

How often do the trains run on the steam railway, as I cannot find details on the IW Steam Railway website?

Furthermore, is anybody on here participating in this railtour?

afaik the steam railway is only open to people on the tour that day so will probably be a special timetable and the Island Line might be a special train booked between Ryde Pier Head and Smallbrook Junction, wouldn't know if normal service trains will call at Smallbrook Junction

I'm sure you'll be able to get most of the shacks - me and a friend got a few of them just on a general day out (went the full length of the line from Pier to Shanklin where we spent a couple of hours then wound our way back calling off at a few places on the way - Lake for 20 mins, Sandown for 40 mins, Ryde St Johns Road for 20 mins and then walked back from Esplanade along the Pier

Unfortunately it appears there is no service on this day, which means that Smallbrook Junction will also be shut

Im pretty sure that the railway specailly opens up for the uk railtours passengers.

I did that trip last year and all Island Line trains did stop at Smallbrook, I presume it was all arranged with UKRT. It was a great day out. We also did a boat trip around Portsmouth Harbour before going over to Ryde.

I travelled on an earlier Ticket to Ryde tour as well, and as others have posted, the steam line and Smallbrook Junction are both opened specially. Travel to and from Smallbrook is by normal service trains.

IIRC we arrived at Ryde Pierhead a bit earlier than scheduled, and the first down Island Line train was announced as not stopping at Smallbrook. However quite a few of the railtour passengers (including me) opted to take it to go down to Shanklin and come back, getting off at Smallbrook on the return.

Unless you want extended stops at all the stations, you should easily be able to cover all tracks and all stations on the island. I think the steam line was running a two train service timetable.
