Hi all!

Noticed Colas liveried 86701 at Ilford on my way past today, it seemed to have some reliveried AGA Mk3s coupled to it. I didn't know this locomotive was currently being used - does anyone know what its current status is?

Cheers!

There is something mentioned on wiki stating that although it retains Colas livery it is now back under ETL custodianship and currently employed on contractual work at Ilford Works yard.

701 was only hired to Colas for two jobs, just happened that one of those required it to be in their colours. At Ilford to support the GA Mk3 overhauls providing train supply. Been there just under 12 months, and will be there for a while yet.

The GA Mk3s are being refurbed at Crown Point. It appears to be attached to another operators stock most of the time.

It's definitely the GA Mk3s. It's classified overhaul, not the internals piece that is being done at NC.

Aha, that makes sense! Thought it would be ETL related. Cheers to all for the information :)

So we have 701 at ilford as a carriage heater, and 702 at Leicester receiving work for something unknown/unconfirmed/rumoured purpose

So there's absolutely no change of 86701 turning up on GA services then. Because you know that's what everybody's secretly hoping.

I'd happilly take her for a spin along the GEML but alas sadly all compitency amongst ex-Anglia drivers on these machines has long expired.

86702 is going on hire to GBRf but not for the sleeper, expected to be used for the annual ice-breakers, although the way the sleepers are you may well see it used. It has been repainted, but in ETL livery again.
