The Daily Mash said:
RAIL companies have devised an incomprehensible new fare structure, specially for women.

The firms backed Jeremy Corbyn’s call to segregate the rail network, insisting it would empower women and keep everyone safely profitable.

A spokesman for the train operators said: “Women-only tickets will be classified as ‘safe’, ‘super-safe’, ‘budget safe’, ‘off-peak safe’ and ‘fractionally less peak safe’.

“Women will also have the chance to buy a standard ‘woman’ ticket, or a cheaper ‘plain woman’ one. It’s entirely up to them if they want to admit to being an unloved, childless frump.”

The spokesman added: “Prices will vary between £12 and £450 depending on some randomly selected criteria designed to confuse you and make you all emotional.

“We’ll also paint the carriages pink and put flowers on the tables, because you all like that sort of cr*p, don’t you?”

So what's the difference between this proposal and the current ticketing system other than its women only?

Until the late 1970s BR tickets issued to females were stamped with a "W" overprint. See attached season ticket from 1977.

Yes, I remember those. A colleague where I used to work at my first job in the late 1970s got pulled up by the ticket man at Liverpool Street as she did not have the W stamped on her season, they had not issued it correctly at her local station in Essex. She was told to get it corrected the next morning.

Was there any reason for this?

Coming back to the first post, you do all realise that the Daily Mash is satire?

The ATOC have proposed introducing a £1 surcharge for women travelling in high heels to cover the wearing out of train floor coverings caused by high heels. A feminist group called the surcharge sexist and said while they have no objection to the surcharge they think the male passengers should be made to foot the bill as men like seeing women in high heels. A manist group supported the feminist group's idea as they thought paying £1 surcharges will be less bother than trying to win an argument with a group of women.

It is sexist!

Do you not realise this thread is a non-serious one evolving from the media making a big fuss about Jeremy Corbyn saying he would do something which he only said he would look in to, when a Conservative minister had already said she would look in to the same thing?

Do you realise that that is completely irrelevant as to whether it's sexist or not?

My wife, a committed feminist, insisted her season ticket be not issued with the 'W' overstamp and got her way, after getting in touch with her MP, Roger Moate, the Member for Swale, who commendably took it up with the relevant authorities and got involved to a degree not common among MPs, even backbenchers in a marginal constituency, which this was. She never ever had any problems with using the ticket and,if she had had, would have made mincemeat with the jobsworth.
