In the shoulder peaks, there are semi-fast GN services from King's Cross to Welwyn Garden City (WGC) which stop at Finsbury Park, New Southgate, Oakleigh Park, New Barnet, Potters Bar, Hatfield and WGC. However, there are no such services going the other way, oddly.

Are there any other UK rail services which behave this way?

(from another thread)
07.00 Lime St to Euston - non stop Runcorn to Euston
07.05 Wolves to Euston - non stop New St to Euston
05.40 Edinburgh to Kings Cross - non stop Newcastle to Kings Cross
06.30 Bradford FS to Kings Cross - non stop Wakefield to Kings Cross

As far as I am aware, all of the above do not have a similar service with the same stopping pattern in the northbound direction.

How about the 09:35 Mon-Fri (09:43 Sats from 12 Sept) Penzance - Manchester Picc. XC service?

Another planet...
There used to be a direct service from Leeds and all stations to Deighton, to Lockwood and all stations to Dodworth (it runs beyond, but there's direct services to Barnsley and beyond via Wakefield Kirkgate)... This no longer operates as the Penistone line "extra" is formed from an incoming Selby via Bradford service albeit no longer advertised as a cross-Huddersfield run. Either way, there have been no through services from the Penistone line to East of Huddersfield for a long time.

It is possible to travel from Manchester to intermediate stations on the Bolton line until the early evening when only the through trains continue. However, there is one late stopper outwards, so if you live in Manchester and fancy an evening in, say, Farnworth, you have to catch this train further outwards to Bolton then return to Manchester on a through train passing Farnworth again half an hour or so later getting in rather late.

Bizarrely this is also the case with the "bustitution" taking place which means that you have to catch the (even later) bus from Farnworth to Bolton and then get a substitute bus back to Manchester getting you into the city around one in the morning.

Or, of course, you could just get the 38 bus anyway and save the whole ridiculous scenario.

There is also a Penzance -Aberdeen service, so not that. (The Southbound one is ran by a Voyager!! Hope I never have to do that.)

Nope there isn't there is a Plymouth to Aberdeen which is also run by a voyager but no Penzance to Aberdeen. In the days of Virgin Cross Country there were more trains to Aberdeen though some of which I think ran via Stoke-on-Trent of all places.

Elgin's a popular place to terminate random services without having services originate there. Sundays see two services arrive from Glasgow Queen Street running via Inverness, but no Southbound equivalent exists. (1H13 and 1H17)

Having said that, there is a SO Southbound service to Glasgow via Aberdeen that operates. Again, in one direction only. (1T86)

The 05:00 Manchester Piccadilly - Glasgow is the only service to stop both at Lockerbie and Carstairs

In the morning all services that call at Kings Langley southbound call at Apsley and vice versa, however going northbound many services skip-stop with only one an hour calling at both, and some skipping bigger stops but calling at smaller ones as well!
Weirdest is the 1829 ex-Euston that calls Watford Junction, Apsley, Berkhamsted, Cheddington, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, Wolverton and Northampton, missing Kings Langley and the bigger stops of Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Leighton Buzzard so the people at the smaller stops can get a seat I guess!

There is quite a bit of asymmetric running on the Argyle Lines in Glasgow.

Trains from Larkhall to Dalmuir run via Singer, however the trains from Dalmuir to Larkhall run via Yoker.

Similarly there are through trains from Milngavie to Cumbernauld, while the return train runs from Cumbernauld to Dalmuir.

Gloucester to Stansted Airport direct is a 1 way journey (I think).

Wolverhampton to Walsall via Willenhall is 1 way as is the 3 services that run from Walsall to Liverpool Lime Street (I think).

Glocester's situation on the Plymouth the Edinburgh is a strange one as Southbound there is 1 call per weekday by CrossCountry services to Plymouth however I don't think any Northbound services from Plymouth call there although there are some services that start at Bristol Temple Meads.

Two trains in the morning peak start at Raynes Park and miss out Clapham Junction and Vauxhall on the way to Waterloo. Nothing does any of that in the opposite direction.

On EMT, there's the 0707 Mansfield Woodhouse to Norwich, and the 2105 Spalding to Nottingham via Stamford, Oakham and Melton Mowbray.

The Mansfield > Norwich has no equivalent return journey, and the early morning Nottingham > Spalding goes via Grantham.
