where is the best place to take pictures of trains?

hi i was wondering if any one could tell me of any great places to take pictures of train i take some photos in eastleigh and bramley and was wondering where else is a good place

I used to love going to Acton Bridge between Crewe and Warrington/Runcorn. You left the station and headed towards Crewe a short way down footpaths and there is a pedestrian bridge over the line. You could get really good unrestricted views from either side of the line (Allowing for the overhead electrification of course). You are right on the WCML and got all kinds going past. I guess the variety these days isn't as great and I'm not sure if the view may be more restricted by fencing these days.

Depends on how far you like to travel but near here, Gipsy Lane bridge, Abbots Langley, Herts., you have an excellent view of the Watford tunnels' northern portals on the WCML.
Apart from the line's normal traffic, Pendolinos, Voyagers, 321s, 350s & 377s, and a variety of freight hauled by 66s etc., there are many abnormal movements along the line:
1) rolling stock of almost any type being transferred to Wolverton and other workshops (and breakers) up the WCML
2) steam specials on their way north, (many of which stop at Watford Junction so will be accelerating hard at this point to make the slow line linespeed).

The colours are not good, as I was shooting almost into the morning sun.

Clapham Junction must get a good variety of units, Wimbledon might also be a good place, no idea as to what freight passes through either location

I'm not sure there's any freight at Wimbledon but there is some at Clapham Jct; however half of it passes through the highest numbered platforms while the other half of it passes through the Windsor side platforms so it's not easy to photograph all the movements; even if you have a very powerful zoom there is going to be a very high bowlage factor at that location.
