Lost track of tube and rail strikes. Wonder if there could be a sticky (a non-discussion thread) where dates of possible strikes and companies could be posted, and updated if the strikes are called off?

Meanwhile, I'm travelling to and from London on Mon Aug 24. Any problems?

The only strike I'm aware of affecting National Rail TOCs is FGW: https://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/strike

Sunday 23 August and Saturday 29 August to Monday 31 August

Planned strikes by the RMT mean services will be affected on Sunday 23 August and between Saturday 29 August and Monday 31 August.

We are continuing to meet with the RMT, and remain hopeful we can come to an agreement that will avoid the strikes going ahead.

If the strike goes ahead as planned, trains may be very busy and there will be limited food and drink services on-board. Last trains of the day are likely to leave significantly earlier than usual.

You can plan your journey for Sunday 23 August on our Journey planner above - we will upload timetables for Saturday 29 - Monday 31 August closer to the dates.

Looks like I'm in the clear. Where's the best place to go for up-to-date info (apart from here, obvs!)? I notice a banner (easily missed??) on the National Rail site!

Partly depends where you are travelling from! FGW may strike on the 23rd so some stock may not be in position.

ATW running additional shuttle (presume 4 Cars) between Swansea and Cardiff today and Sunday to help to make up FGW shortfall.

Amazing how one group of workers are in fear of there jobs, whilst another do overtime and rest day working to undermine them.

Isn't it amazing that on special event days in Cardiff ATW tell us they haven't got the stock to strengthen the West Wales services so everyone crams in to a two car 175 and can't pick up anyone East of Swansea, yet when there is industrial action with another company there's loads of stock available.

There is no event in Cardiff today and when there is, there are 4 car shuttles running between Cardiff and Newport and other strengthening. You can't strengthen a 175 by any other class.

I'm surprised that got past certain unions in ATW.

Legally the unions can't block it via another employee. Plus why would the unions want to? Their ultimate goal isn't to cause disruption to the public but to protest at their employer.

And if the extra services don't run it won't be FGW who suffer, it'll be the ATW staff on the normal booked Cardiff Swansea services trying to cope with an extra 8 coaches worth of passengers every hour.

Would FGW get any part of the fares paid today through ORCATS when they are not running a service?

I was on one of these 'strengthening' ATW shuttles today between Cardiff --> Swansea, and between Cardiff and Bridgend it was only about one third full, with the very front carriage completely empty. Seemed a waste of a 150+158.

Meanwhile, other ATW scheduled services were suffering as a result of 158s+150s being taken up to cover for FGW services. Whilst waiting at Bridgend, I saw a full and standing packed 2 car 150 working a Milford Haven --> Manchester Piccadilly service. The catering trolley was literally jammed into the double door space! Ridiculous.

Maybe ATW should just be concentrating on strengthening it's existing timetabled services until Tuesday rather than running extra Cardiff --> Swansea shuttles that are under used and short forming it's own services as a result.

The 150 you saw on a Milford Haven was probably booked 2 Car so it wouldn't have been short formed. How are you going to strengthen a 175 if nothing else will attach to it. Can't keep everybody happy. Still ATW are to be admired for their effort in attempting to keep passengers happy. In hindsight, how did they know the shuttle was going to be under used and also you only travelled on one of them.

Probably for the number of trains that are running but as the DaFT are (allegedly) bankrolling FGW for the loss of revenue for up to 10 strike days I would say they don't really care about the loss of some ORCATS money.

From the timings, it would appear that ATW have 2 shuttles out today. Judging from tweets to ATW there is still overcrowding.
