Reading this going the other way, by chance I'll be at Watford at precisely the same time as it is so will let you know.

Indeed it was. 'Pride of Crewe'. It might make Wolverhampton by tomorrow.

The xx23 is a better choice for this than the xx03 and xx43 but unless the 1930 Glasgow and 1940 Manchester loop somehow they are going to be quite late too.

Probably a reasonable decision not to lose 11 coaches of capacity on a bank holiday weekend.

EDIT: It is already on the slow line at Bourne End junction. Now to see how many Birmingham trains overtake it before it gets to Coventry.

So I took this for you guys. I have no idea how unusual this is, trains really don't interest me in the slightest!

And I have no idea how to get that photo the right way up.

Surprised they didn't withdraw the Watford Jcn call to relieve the disruption to following services. Hats off to them for not cancelling as so many Pendolinos & Voyagers where leaving Euston full & standing yesterday.

Strange that nobody has mentioned what the problem was with the 390. It was a defective cab door

Any why would it need to be dragged for they do not have cab doors. Maybe a wind noise problem. Or no protection between cab and passengers.

Why does it lose so much time? How fast can these go?

On the juice with around 9000 horses to shove it along to 125 these things usually fly. With a bodysnatcher cranking barely 2500 horses in comparison the power to haul 11 coaches just isnt there. Its like using a range rover to pull a plaxton premier!

To be fair seemed to be doing well thru rugby, but i counted only 9 on, so a few ton weight saved will help its progress, and at least it hasnt got shap to face!

a 67 has even less power at rail (i.e tractive effort not dissimilar to a HST power car with just 4 motors whereas the heinz has at least a comparable figure to a 47 or 50, and 6 motors) and have to scream their tits off to keep a mk4 moving at a credible speed!

And then disrupted a lot of passengers and delayed another train with an SSO? A lot of people get on here you know ;)

Official reason given on Tyrell was a "door interlock problem". Surely can't be a passenger door interlock problem as then it wouldn't matter if it was hauled or not! Not sure what door had the problem though...

Within earshot of trains passing the one and half
to put it in simplest terms, a 57 can just not keep up with the timings of a Class 390!

A 57 uses nearly half its horses just supplying the hotel power to an 11-car 390, it doesn't tilt (so the EPS is off too) and as 455driver points out a top speed (downhill) of 95mph isn't a top speed of 125mph.

The 57s were NEVER intended to be used to haul 390s in regular service - the fact that they managed it Crewe - Holyhead was a combination of the bowling green gradients and Palace-of-Westminster-demands-for-restaurant-coaches.

Didn't the Alsthom contract have to be modified to accept this was going to happen as the dragging on the North Wales Coast meant the locos and the couplers were put through more than they were designed for?
