You will find that quite a few early morning and late night services go diffrent routes to aid route knowladge, the one that i can think of the top of my head is XC going via Solihull. Im there are others but i just cannot think of them at the moment.

XC via Camp Hill, EC via Knottingley plus many many others, they are all to maintain diversionary route knowledge.

XC via Camp Hill...

Surely that's been the usual route for NW-SW services for quite a few years?

It was part of DfT's explanation for the XC route rationalisation from 2007 onwards, to avoid as many conflicting reversals as possible in the New St platforms.

A XC in each direction passes through Solihull every hour during the day from to Reading or South Coast and have done since the days of Operation Princess. There are also another odd one or two thrown in. Obviously not for route refreshing purposes but for pathing avoiding Coventry and the Birmingham International corridor and enter/leave New st so far along the Camp Hill route.

Hi all,

Had to add this train into a SimSig timetable I am building.....

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P37032/2015/08/25/advanced

..... but I have absolutely no idea why it can't be sent through Didcot Parkway on Platforms 3, 4 or 5 and instead passes on P1 and is then reversed on the ML at Foxhall Junction. Any ideas?

Dave

I have worked that train more than a dozen times and it never goes through platform 1. it goes through 3 after crossing from the ML at Didcot East. It is purely for Route retention purposes. It also goes via Stechford - Aston - Soho to get from International to New St

I caught it once thinking it would be faster to Oxford than an FGW service.

I was wrong. Still the reversal at Foxhall is interesting but you can't see anything as it is pitch dark.

Go in the height of summer closest to the longest day of the year and pray for a sunny day all day and you might just see something.
