Several of the Gravesend to Blackfriars via Sidcup trains today have been diverted to Victoria (and started there in reverse). Does anyone know why? It seems to be quite random. Even if ticket acceptance is in place on the District line it would surely mean a missed train if you turned up at the wrong terminal.

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/99926.aspx

Major engineering work in connection with the Thameslink Programme is taking place between London Charing Cross / London Cannon Street and New Cross / Charlton with various line closures. Therefore there are changes to some Southeastern services which are detailed below: .

London Charing Cross, London Cannon Street and Waterloo East stations will be closed. Southeastern services will also not serve London Bridge except for trains to / from Hastings.

Trains that normally run to / from London Charing Cross or London Cannon Street will be diverted to either London Victoria or London Blackfriars with some trains starting their journey at New Cross.

Buses will replace trains between New Cross and Charlton via Greenwich. If you’re travelling between Deptford, Greenwich, Maze Hill, Westcombe Park, Charlton & Lewisham you can also use London Bus services.

Additional trains will run between New Cross and Tonbridge via Orpington & Sevenoaks.

Trains between London and Gravesend via Sidcup will be diverted to and from London Blackfriars. If you’re travelling to or from New Cross or St Johns, you’ll need to change trains at Lewisham.

There will be no direct services between the Woolwich, Bexleyheath or Sidcup lines, you’ll need to travel via and change trains at Dartford instead.
That will explain most of it. Major engineering work, with many services diverted/altered/retimed.

Possibly the driver didn't sign the route into Blackfriars? In normal circumstances there are no trains from Blackfriars to the Dartford lines.

I should've read the thing in more detail. Thanks to Yorkie editing it, I see they should have actually run to Blackfriars.

Realtimetrains stops reporting trains into Blackfriars from around 7pm, however only 3 services out of (15:20, 19:20, 20:20) see no report there either, but on time from Denmark Hill.

That would actually seem quite a reasonable explanation, thanks.

It looks like it may be more than one diagram affected so maybe it's a dispatch issue at Blackfriars?

On previous blockade weekends the Sidcup line was New cross Sat/Mon, and Victoria on Sunday. I assume there is just not the capacity at Victoria with the other diversions, other than on a Sunday, although it's the most useful alternative termini.
