I had to chuckle to myself.

Yesterday, I changed my EMail address on the VTEC website.
Today I received this EMail twice
We're getting in touch as we have noticed that you have changed the email address that you use to log in to your Virgin Trains East Coast account from {edited} to {edited} on 30/08/2015. We take the security of our customers' personal information very seriously and therefore just wanted to check that you requested this change to be made.

If the email was changed by you, there is no further action required. If however, you were not aware that your account email address had been changed, please can you get in touch with a member of our customer services team on T: 03457 225 111 and they will advise you what to do.

Kind regards

The Virgin Trains East Coast Team
Why the chuckle? Both instances of this EMail were received by the NEW address. In other words, if this had in fact been the result of some fraudulent activity by a third party, it is they who would have received the message and not me. And they would hardly be likely to call for help, would they?

D'oh!

This happens with lots of websites when you go to change your details - try it with your paypal or such like and youll get the same email.

But they usually send it to the old email to check you know about the change.

No point sending it to the new (potentially controlled by fraudsters one).

Yes, that's the key thing! If it's not sent to the old address, then if it was done maliciously the intended recipient would never know ;)

They seem to be on a bit of an attack over this at the moment as they have emailed saying they have tightened the password policy and asking people to change theirs. Not sure if anyone else has had the same

I've had that one too. Personally, I don't get the VTEC site to remember my payment card details but type them in afresh each time - the fewer places those details are recorded the better, but if that was not the case then their reminder to (in effect) have as good a password as you'd have for online banking would be welcome.
