I can't find an easy answer to this online, but maybe someone can.

Is there a list available of surviving underground stock of types that no longer run in normal service?

Thanks

Possibly, one could scour wikipedia to find out what's left, I know fairly well off hand, but I have a blind spot up at Hainault and Ruislip for what they have.

Hainault:

4 car unit of 1962 stock
3 car unit of 1972 mark 1 stock
Both owned by Cravens Heritage Trains and unlikely to move under their own steam again (particularly the '72).
During sandite season, the 8-car east-end Central line sandite train (1962 stock) is based here.

Ruislip:

Ex-Met Railway electric loco No. 12 Sarah Siddons
5-car west-end Central line sandite train/pilot unit (1962 stock).
3 car unit of 1960 stock owned by Cravens Heritage Trains, unlikely to see use on the Underground again following its ill-fated return journey from the Epping Ongar Railway last year.
The Track Recording Vehicle, formed of converted 1973 stock track recording car and two 1960 stock pilot cars is maintained here.

Neasden:

4 car unit of A60 stock (currently made up to 5 cars with the addition of sandite trailer), for sandite duties in the autumn.
4 car unit of A62 stock, backup for sandite duties if the A60 is unavailable.

Acton Works:

4 car unit of A60 stock, source of spares for the two units at Neasden.
4 car unit of 1938 stock owned by the museum, currently being worked on.
Some or all of the Q Stock cars also owned by the museum, not sure what's happening with these at the moment.
Various other bits and pieces, not necessarily complete units, comprising 1962, 1967 and 1972 mark 1 cars, some with a future and some not.

Aldwych:

4 car unit of 1972 mark 1 stock, used for filming and fire brigade exercises.

Morden:

Stuffed and mounted single car of 1959 stock.

Can't think of anything else!

Also at Acton, in the museum depot there's a rag tag collection. According to Wikipedia there's 13 cars of Standard Stock
3 Driving Motors in the Depot
4 DMs in the Works
1 Control Trailer in the Depot
4 Trailers in the Works
1 Trailer in the Depot

I think there's a vague plan to restore a set useable like the 1938 set.

No Standard Stock left in Acton Works, all scrapped.

Acton Museum:
1x A Stock car, 1x C Stock DM, 1x R Stock DM, 1x 1967 Stock DM, 1x 1972 Stock DM, 1x 1983 Stock DM, 1x 1986 Stock DM

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre:
3x CO/CP cars

Mangapps Railway Museum:
1x 1959 Stock DM

Kinda upsetting that the Museum didn't take a 4 car set of either 67 stock or A stock.

Do either of the sets that LU retained for Sandite purposes have future preservation potential?

Finally, are there still some 83 stock cars in one of the sidings out west?

These were both taken out in June. 31Rd is already back in use.

83TS has now been removed, for the stabling of 73TS for "Night Tube".

There are three A60 stock formations left around the network, I believe one of them was kept in good enough nick for heritage use, but the condition of the under frame and bogies is not too good at the moment, probably quite a bit of work for passenger use.

There's plenty of 67TS left all over the network, but it would be very difficult to use it for heritage as it's not capable of being driven manually for extended periods of time, as it was only ever designed to be shunted or driven short distances of non coded track in manual.

It's also very similar indeed to the 1972TS Mk.I different cabs for manual driving but pretty much the same otherwise, just no auto drive units or perception heads.

I don't think there is actually. Aside from what's left at Acton and the two UNDMs on the Asset Inspection Train, all I can think of is this four car unit which went to London Road in 2012. I'm not sure if it's still there.

Why, in your opinion, are they not capable of sustained manual operation off-code? There is certainly no operational reason, other than it being necessary to have a second person in the cab due to lack of deadman/vigilance device.

What stabling? The Night Tube timetable WTT55 says 4 trains will be stabled at South Harrow overnight all week, which is how many trains currently stable there overnight.

I'm going off what SWIP sent round there...

There is some 67TS in some other engineering trains, and stored outside of London.

I'd honestly say lack of experience of T/Ops in taking them out, even TTOs haven't taken anything out with that type of controller in three years, combined with the similarities with 72TS Mk.I.

The same controller is used for operation on or off code, so that is irrelevant. Licensing and competence matters can be easily addressed, just as they have to be for brand new rolling stock. So as we've ruled out technical, operational and regulatory matters, is there another dimension I'm missing or shall we leave it?

What happened on the 'ill fated' return trip?

Its shoegear dislodged a section of traction current rail, which then ripped all the positive shoes off down one side of the following service train, which then became gapped. It shut the central portion of the Central line down for the whole morning and the Cravens unit suffered at least two smashed shoebeams.

I guess the shoegear didn't rise the way the 92TS or 62TS can as did the 60TS ever get used in the Central core of the Central Line as I know they did the Woodford-Hainault Shuttles and the Epping-Ongar service but were they ever built to run in the main section?

There are 2 1959 ex Northern line coaches and a 1938 ex District line coach at Mangapps.

Also an ex District line coach resides in deepest Norfolk at Whitwell station, but not in the best of condition.
