Well basically quite a few years ago (I still skateboard nowadays) I was attempting a trick on a rather large halfpipe (I was wearing alot of protection) and manage to land in such a funny angle on my arm when I fell that I manage to dislocate my elbow.

Just to explain when you dislocate an elbow it isn't a case of a quite POP and it's back in you usually end up cracking the socket joint and your funny bone along with it so not very fun.
As you can see my arm is well and truly Dislocated and just incase your trying to figure out how you would attempt to put it back in YES MY ARM TWISTED 180 DEGGREES

Ouch, that's gotta hurt... how'd they get it all back in? Did you need surgery?

I opted that they tried every possible attempt before surgery.
so basically what happened is got to the hospitle after using a whole canister of laughing gas and was put on morphine.
Then had the X-ray (most pain I had ever felt in my life (the had to move the arm about alot.
They decided after my decision to put me under a local anestetic and first of all move my arm back into position (That part worked).
But although this was successfull my arm wasn't going back into the socket.
So I was put under a general anestetic and over the course of three hours they jigsawed my arm into perfect position without and incision and because the socket was cracket all they could do was put me in a cast and hope my arm would slow heal and they joint would be fixed solid again.

So basically the result was.........
25% loss of movement in my joint (it doesnt straighten)
Cold days a really horrible for my arm
The whole next 48 hours after I woke up I was wheelchair bound due to excessive painkillers and meds (I was high as a kite)

I hate Morphine, and theatre, and anaesthetic - and the laughing gas. Morphine just makes you go gaga, and from what people have told me about being high - i can only compare it to that, anaesthetic - what if i dont wake up =| enough said - I have my own stories about anaesthetists if anyone wants to hear them =P, and laughing gas - doesnt even make me laugh, in fact, it just makes my mouth really dry. Nasty!!

Morphine... sounds like fun :D

Seriously, though, that sucks. My mum broke her arm about 10 years ago and she still complains about it a lot, especially in the cold. And I always thought it was just her being histerical. Obviously nothing as bad as yours (she was just in and out of hospital plus outpatients) so that kinda puts it into perspective for me.

I've seen people on Morphine and they do go completely mad (although I believe some people don't react well to it; I'm sure djw will fill us in on the specifics soon ;)). But I have seen a hip repositioned under morphone and the patient didn't seem to feel any pain so in that respect it is a good drug.

The whole time after the procedure (when I was drugged up) I basically was so weak at the knees a couldn't get up my speech was slurred at best.
I was constantly confused and it was quite bad considering alot of my mates kept coming over to see how I was only to see me bed-ridden and constantly drooling.

Wow, that looks like it was painful!

I used to skate, although haven't done in ages. I sucked, cause I was too scared of doing something like that!

My board is completed dead. After like 10 mins of skating, I have to tighten the trucks.

Ouch, that x-ray looks nasty.

I know what you mean re. the cold.
I was hit by a car last year (I was on a bike) and my left elbow was the first to hit the ground, I only cracked it but it was hit in the same place as a previous colision with the ground from 10 years earlier. The pain in the cold now is nasty.

Still, the most amusing injury from that was the cut on my back which I found the next day where the brake handle crashed down and tried to impale itsself on me!!

Yeah it still get's to me sometimes but I carry on I don't skate all the time now cause well this was when I didn't do anything to do with the railways (well cept the odd book and model).
But maybe one day we all could do a random meet and like bash and bring skateboard and find somewhere to try skate lol.

Cars are much more fun for fancy tricks, mainly because there's alot more mental between you and a hard surface!

I will admit to having an unscheduled pitstop at Ringmer Thursday night.
I had to find a garage with free water that i could pour over the front brakes. I had to cool them down abit after they overheated pulling too many tricks between there and Cross in Hand

There was a recent suggestion that extreme sports participants (and skating is classed as extreme by some) would have to take out insurance (as Car drivers do#) to pay for the NHS fees incurred*.

#= if involved in a road collision, the NHS endeavour to recoup immediate treatment costs back from the insurance companies

*=i.e. Ambulance, A&E, immediate operations and hospital medical care until discharge, Later operations and elective surgery is not covered by this policy.
