Surely this reinforces the case for a maximum of three teams from a country to be allowed to participate in the Champions League. Those who finish fourth in the larger European leagues should be entered into the Europa League.

I am not exactly sure of my facts on this matter of the UEFA Cup as such, so I throw open the question to the floor...

"What year was the last year when the UEFA Cup was last competed for...and who were the two finalists?"

2009 Shakhtar Donetsk beat Werder Bremen.

Much as I find Manchester United's failure hilarious, I'm trying to bite my tongue until after Arsenal's brave 2-1 (out on head to head) victory over Olympiakos tonight.

Manchester United were away to the head team in their group in the final group match and I was amazed that the scoreline of 3-2 was so close. Of course, noting their poor goalscoring this season, one of their two goals was an own goal.

It is no use whatsoever to say that their defensive record in the Premiership is good, when they then concede three goals in a match in the Champions League.

Arsenal & Chelsea into the final 16.

I suspect Arsenal will be given a hard draw against Real Madrid, and Chelsea will get Gent

Oh dear. A pretty decent week for the English teams in the European Cup with both Man City and Chelsea winning their games and Arsenal looking pretty good tonight. Lets hope the draw is kind to them all on Monday.

Have I made a post celebrating our win against the bin dippers yet?

If not, then LOL.

Also it will all come home to roost against spurs this weekend where we will get humped again.

Are Gent not as good as Bournemouth? :D

My completely unlikely prediction, Chelsea will somehow win the champions league but finish in the bottom half of the table making a mockery of getting automatic entry into next season at the expense of 4th place.

I'm glad I bit my tongue, I can mock much more safely now we're through to our annual defeat in the last 16.

BIB - I have to say I'm surprise BT have pick Chelsea v Orient/Scunthorpe game as would thought Eastleigh v Bolton will been better choice, yes Chelsea haven't been that great and would be shock if Scunthorpe (or special) Leyton orient beat Chelsea but for Non league team to beat Championship team surely that would been more of shock?

Man Utd v Sheffield United, Chelsea v Scunthorpe or Orient & Tottenham v Leicester are strange choices I feel. Oxford v Swansea should of been a TV game (and not just restricted to Wales)
Doncaster v Stoke and Eastleigh v Bolton should of been chosen, but the tv companies have a love in with the premier league so will choose the big 4/5/6 as and when they can

All down to ratings of course.

Man Utd are on for 48th time in a row (according to the internet).
