Has the Ryde gold card been axed?

Just tried to renew THE gold card and it hasn't been allowed. SWT no longer issue it as a gold card.

So anyone aware of this and what are my options?

Are they allowed to do this given that it is within the area?

If you are just after the Gold Card then the cheapest option is the one between the two Lichfield stations. If you are after the six free tickets then the next one is actually a fair bit more expensive.

Could you try a different station?

Can you be more specific? Where and how did you try to renew it? Starting from when? Smartcard or paper ticket? What was 'not allowed'?

This was a renewal to commence on Sunday. The man at Waterloo ticket office scanned my photo card. A message appeared on his screen saying that this season was no longer to be issued as a Gold Card

I'm not clear why SWT think they have the right to do that unilaterally. However, as someone else has said, Lichfield City to Lichfield Trent Valley is a cheaper option.

We don't know if this is a general message attached to the season ticket, or a personal one attached to your account.

Is the address SWT has for you well within the SWT catchment area, near the edge of it, or well outside it?

Perhaps email goldservice @ swtrains.co.uk or phone them on 0845 607 9999 and ask what's going on? They are still advertising it as a gold card so you could cause them a bit of trouble if you were that way inclined.

With a competitor offering a significantly cheaper gold card, it seems odd if SWT is actively trying to discard this revenue stream.

I wonder if the intention was to stop Ryde season tickets being eligible for the free weekend SWT tickets, and the message has got garbled as it made its way down to the frontline?

I can understand if they wanted to ensure that the free tickets weren't issued with this cheap season ticket. However, it was a flat refusal; the ticket office advisor was most apologetic.

I shall go for a cheaper one because I've still got some unused SWT free tickets, so clearly they're not that important to me as they once were.

Question: can I still use them despite the new Gold Card being for a non SWT trip? I suspect not...

I think SWT since resolved this problem, albeit probably too late for the original poster.

Could you advise what SWT's solution was please?

That's an internal matter for SWT! Presumably they took whatever steps they considered appropriate to try to avoid a repeat of the situation.

To be clear, nothing has changed - go and read the SWT website if you don't believe me. (One person was given incorrect information on one occasion, that's all. Others asking SWT the same question were told that answer was wrong and shouldn't happen again and given the correct answer exactly in line with what the SWT website has said throughout.)

Emma Chissit?

£168 at today's prices going up to £172 next year.

I renewed mine again yesterday for the seventh time. I'll be eligible for the senior railcard next year so am weighing up the benefits of switching to that. It gives similar discounts to the Gold Card, and countrywide, but I would lose the six free SWT weekend passes, the ability to buy a railcard for someone else for £10, and wouldn't get discount for others travelling with me. And I could buy a £10 senior railcard for myself before the Gold Card expires! Decisions.

I'm determined to make a trip to Ryde next year to see the Esplanade and use my season for the first time after all these years. Perhaps we should have an organised day out for other Ryde ticket holders who have never been there.

Thanks! I'll stick with Lichfield at the moment. Buying your own senior card cheap sounds like a great idea.

This thread worried me as I am on at least my third Ryde Gold Card, I always assumed there were so few of us they didn't worry!
I love the idea of a Ryde meetup! I always tell myself I'll use the ticket for its intended purpose one day

I'd 'moved' to Litchfield before I ever got to use my season on IOW!
