Evening folks, any chance someone can shed some light on my attempts to force a Gold Card discount on a Birmingham PlusBus via an online booking? Neither Southern nor Chiltern seem able to discount the full £3.20 add-on down to the correct £2.10. I did a test booking with Southern and it does correctly discount a Brighton PlusBus (as it's done for me before).

Is it possible that this is because the Gold Card discount is a recent introduction to the West Midlands, so the reduction's not been entered into the system?

Alternatively, is there another booking engine out there (Southern & Chiltern have the same one) which may override this issue?

Fair enough, it's only £1.10 I'm looking to save (and it's a bargain at the full price!), but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for any insight.

Does the gold card discount reached Birmingham? Natiional Rail and google suggest not.

The fares do not exist in the system so nowhere will be able to sell them!

A bit of an omission...

Cheers, Causton - thanks for the swift reply! So there's no point me heading down to the local station for something that's only available on their system and no need at all for me to give the clerk a hard time when he can't find the fare either.

As I say, it's still a bargain, and will still get me from pub to pub - I'll just have to forgo a packet of pork scratchings or, perhaps, half a mild, as a result.

Thanks again.

Noticed this is still an issue. Might send some feedback to Chiltern about it - not that I think it would make any difference.

Looking at a couple of other examples in the expanded Gold Card area, it appears that discounted PlusBus tickets are still only available in the normal Network Railcard area.

Did some more digging around. National Rail claim advise "1/3 off PLUSBUS Day tickets in the Network Railcard area" is a benefit of the Gold Card.

So I think it's correctly behaving to only use the old Gold Card area (Network Railcard area)
