This is in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of the HST.

Assuming that it's likely to close with the introduction of the class 800's / 801's this must surely be the last opportunity to take a look round the depot.

Absolutely not destined for closure. There will a substantial number of DMU sets based at SPM post class 800 introduction.

SPM most definitely is not closing when the 395GTIs are introduced!

From an internal source:

"We are looking to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the HST and looking at repainting the first of the production power cars (43002) in an historic livery".

My guess (the source did not elaborate further) will be blue/grey.

This would seem like an ideal opportunity for the prototype HST power car to pay a visit, especially now that the 125 Groups' three mark 3 carriages have been reliveried to match.

Alongside a production power car returned to as delivered "flying banana" livery it would surely be quite fitting, and quite appealing to photographers.

Will this be a "ticket only" event or will you be able to just turn up on the day, please? I have tried to google this event but can't find this info,

Thanks

I've also heard that the "refreshed" DMU stock will be on display, with 150001, 150232, 158956, plus a green turbo on display

It's quite an industrial area isn't it? What is the parking likely to be like or will they be running train shuttles from Temple Meads?

Just bought mine, 14 quid for an adult ticket. You get sent a print at home ticket via email. There's a send to smartphone option too.

It says a limited number of tickets will be available on the day.

The event is now being advertised on stations ... well, at Newport at least.

I saw a poster this afternoon on the station; it is on the lift shaft for platforms two and three, although I didn't have time to have a good look at it. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Edit: Yes, it says something like "Celebrate 40 Years of the High Speed Train with Us" and then goes on to say where and when the event will be and how to book tickets.

Edit Two: I've had another look at this advert,. and the wording is:

Title: "Opening the Doors of 40 Years"

Explanation: "We are celebrating 40 Years of the High Speed Train at St Phillips Marsh Depot so come along to our Open Day on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May and get up close to trains of all shapes and sizes."

Sub Title: "40 Years 1976 - 2016"

Followed by an explanation of the times, prices and how to get tickets.
