Apparently some bookings that haven't been collected yet have been cancelled? Is this true?? I'll be absolutely gutted if it is!!

It's a long way from impossible that this might have happened. I haven't heard anything though.

For those of us who want to travel First class the weekend upgrade between Glasgow and Edinburgh is £3.50 and between Glasgow or Edinburgh to Aberdeen or Inverness is £5.90. The £1 tickets are valid for upgrading as they are anytime day singles.

Scotrail have told me the advance First Fare (£7.50) will be in the system by April. The new advance fares make the £1 fares seem not as amazing as first thought. Still glad I bought a few though!! :)

I have Tweedbank-Kyle and Eskbank-Kildonan singles/returns as well as two lots for a currently still available route so I won't spill that in public view :p Glad I bought when I did however :)

Purchased some from the trainline this afternoon.

Although hitting them with 4 lots of TOD collection fees, plus a paypal fee probably cost them more than the 75p booking fee!

I've just picked up tickets for a day trip in a couple of weeks, and an overnight stay in Inverness in April. Thanks to the OP for pointing out this bargain.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has problems trying to use these tickets.

Most of the £1 fares have disappeared. However there is at least one flow where they are still available, as Starmill says, up to 16th July on Thetrainline.com

£1 fares may be gone but other ones are still around that aren't as good but at £5 could be useful.

Despite Scotrail saying they'll be honoured it looks like some staff members are a bit out of the loop about it.

From another site:-

Went to collect these tickets this morning at Blairhill & no machine to print them off, guy on desk took card details & reference number then refused to give me them! Told him they were already bought & was he going to reimburse me? Also told him Scotrail had tweeted that fares would be honoured. After he phoned his gaffer he said he'd give me them but it would be up to the conductor on the day. Got screenshots of Scotrail's tweets so shouldn't be a problem. Just a wee heads up for anyone still to collect the tickets.

How reputable is this other site? This isn't from MSE Forum is it?

First post from a long time lurker.

Thank you so much for this thread. I have found my own ticket that allows me to travel north-south from Edinburgh. Are there any destinations left that allow travel to and from Glasgow ?

£1 tickets are still available. I booked more today.

Can I have a PM too please.

Yes you can imagine some explaining going on to senior management in the Pricing and Revenue section of ScotRail.

Neilston to Tweedbank is still £1 single each way, and you can book as far ahead as late July on thetrainline.com (pay by debit card and you only pay 75p in fees, and for that you can get about 10 tickets on 10 different dates)

Given Virgin Trains have £1 fares from Preston to Glasgow (which is a lot further and more of a 'premium' service) even at peak times, and given Scotrail have been aware of this for (at least) 10 days now, I can only assume Scotrail are not too fussed at giving people such a good value fare. It's even being advertised by GWR and Thetrainline.

Perhaps it's all a dastardly plot to close the Borders line by stealth on the basis of unexpectedly low revenue?

I'd like to see the 'usage' figures for Tweedbank!! It must be way way up this year thanks to these tickets! Hopefully the government will think the route is so popular they should quickly extend the route on to Carlisle! :)

I wonder how many of those 500k were actually Edinburgh-Glasgow commuters buying £1 tickets from Tweedbank?
A number, but not that many given that the £1 'sale' was only in effect for a couple of weeks and I doubt the usage figures take future journeys into account.

Numbers would undoubtedly have been even higher if the line had went all the way to Carlisle, people going Edinburgh to Carlisle would have used that rather than the replacement buses that have been on.
Again, they would have been higher but we're talking what - four weeks since the WCML closure? And you also have to consider that many people (50% ?) would still have opted for RRB's as I suspect they would've been faster than the Waverley route diversions.

That may we the case but that aside, given how popular it is so far, would extending it to Carsile be viable?

Hi, I managed to get Tweedbank to Nairn £1 tickets, a couple of weeks ago, for March. I want to use them on the Highland Chieftain from Edinburgh to Inverness. Will that be ok or do I have to stick to Scotrail services? Thanks.
