CMA wouldn't permit a purchase.

As for rubbing them out, the continued expansion of Webberbus continues to surprise. Another 4 new vehicles have arrived for a further assault on Taunton town services that began on Monday! Lord knows how they are doing it?

Some tricky accounting must be happening, I'll be surprised if the buses are not on tick.

It's in Penbugle Lane PL31 2DZ Come in from the top end off Old Callywith Road and as you go down the lane it is right in front of you.

It does not show up on Google Maps!

Have they moved recently? I thought their yard was previously on Roseland's Road which is a little further along Old Callywith Road, but it's been a while since I've been down that way. You can see a few vehicles parked there on Google Street view.

About an hour ago 53701 was being towed wrong way round into Penzance depot. Behind it was a coach displaying www.greyhound.com on its destination blind, in what appeared to be full Greyhound livery. As I was driving, it was dark and raining (for a change!) I can't supply more details.

Yes, FK has received a batch of Greyhounds.

Greyhounds seem mostly to be used on rail replacement. Occasional use on college runs if all else fails!

A 6 p.m. return to depot on a weekday does rather suggest a college run to me. Lucky students, I hope they appreciate the added value they're getting!

Today saw coach 23208 travelling towards St Just at Leswidden Common on private hire?
On Monday night (18th January) in Green Market, Penzance saw Olympian 34138 heading back to the bus station. Unable to see the route it was on.

Midday today 34138 was on a 1A from Lands End, also seen at Greenmarket. This bus is following me around!

Hi all, I've not posted on the bus part of this forum before so please forgive me if anything has already been posted.

Last summer I was down in Newquay and surprised to see Leyland Olympians still in service. 31821 from memory was the one I had the most. From looking online it would seem that is now withdrawn from service along with some others.

My question is what's happened to that batch that would operate around Newquay and is there still any in service down there?

I'm looking at doing a trip down that way soon so I'm looking at the best place to get them before they are withdrawn.

Thanks in advance

Ant

I went to Newquay bus station earlier this week and found the enquiry office closed with shutters drawn. There were no staff around and no signs advising of opening hours or any reason for closure. It was on a weekday afternoon around 3pm.

Is the office only open seasonally i.e. during the summer months?

The Leylands have now been withdrawn. One went to preservation and the other suffered a major failure late in the summer, so I'm not sure what became of that.

I haven't seen it open since Western Greyhound went bust. They used to operate it. I avoid Newquay in summer so not sure if First took it on seasonally.

It was open when I was there around September / October time. I thought the hours might be shown on the First Kernow website but it appears not to be the case.

There are a few Volvo Olympians still going but I would not expect them to be around much longer. The Tridents (and other types) leased to stagecoach Plymouth are returning soon and will probably replace some or all of the remaining Olympian's.

At least that was the plan although there are other deckers (B7's / Trident's) that are available elsewhere and some coming from Yorkshire.

If you are quick and lucky you may catch one or two before they go. 31821 is a Volvo not a Leyland.

Thanks for the info, that was my mistake I did mean Volvo Olypians not Leyland!

Does anyone know what routes they still work or where would be best to catch them?

Many thanks

1 Penzance to lands end pretty much guarantees an Olympian, and quite often 2 Penzance to helston/Falmouth.

I'd be very surprised to see them on the 35, always been a Dart when i've seen it which is only just low enough to clear some restricted height near gweek.

I thought I took a photo of one in Helston recently after I had visited the new Wetherspoons for the first time. I've since checked the photo and it was not on the 37!

I meant 35

They are regular on the 37. Didn't catch the number but it was following me along Falmouth Rd in Redruth this afternoon.
