I worked about half a dozen 450 and 444s yesterday and noted that the clocks on the PIS were not working, some showed 0159, 0200, 0700 and other random times. Further information from social media reveals that London Midland's 350s had the same problem as did TPE 185s. I don't have information on GA 360s or Heathrow Connect units.

Has anyone else noticed this and any idea what the problem might be as is affecting several classes and TOCs.

Seemed to be affecting all SWT units yesterday and today, either displaying 0000 or random times.

Cl360s (at least AGAs) don't display the time on their PIS sytems. They leave it to cycle next stations, calling patterns etc.

A 185 I was on yesterday was showing 00:00 in the first class area and 01:59 in the wheelchair bay!

From memory it was the same yesterday on some or all of the trains I travelled on. Today however it was back to normal.

I guess yesterday being a working day for software engineers, they were able to fix it.

I have seen random times dispayed more times than I can remember on SWT's 455s over many years.

456s are even worse, the time is very frequently wrong on them. The PIS is bad on 456s in general though, unless coupled to a 455.

380's dont have a clock of any sort on the PIS

No, but they have one on the HMI dash screen in the cab. It hasn't told the right time for almost a year now<D .

Apparently Siemens forgot to add the line of code that tells the clock to update off gps system when they did a software update in early 2015. Supposedly getting sorted soon, but not getting my hopes up!

The 350s ive worked over the last few days have mostly showed 00:00 but two today showed some random time and stayed there.
the TMS on some units also are wrong, the time is right on the TMS but2 of the units i had yeaterday showed the date as the 18th October 2015.

I'm going to go with a GPS related glitch, either in the trains themselves or in the actual satellites. Seeing as the trains already have GPS, I'd imagine it'd be easiest to obtain an accurate time from the GPS signal.

The "GPS message" from each satellite contains time information and there has been instances of timing errors as recently as the end of January (http://www.itnews.com.au/news/satellite-failure-caused-global-gps-timing-anomaly-414237).

Whilst clock precision is crucial for the operation of GPS, I doubt the onboard clocks on the Desiros are getting too upset over errors of 13 microseconds :D

Do the Desiros have GPS? It isn't used for door purposes at least; on Desiros it is manual.

ISTR it was 00:00 on the LM I was on on Saturday evening as well. Does say dud software update to me.

That's not what I said caused it though. I was just giving an example of when timing issues have occurred with the GPS satellites themselves ;).
