Arrived at Haywards Heath just after 7.00 this morning to find general confusion.

The 0706 to Victoria appeared to depart with only 4 coaches.
The front 4 coaches of the 0659 to London Bridge were still awaiting the rear 8 which had problems near Littlehampton and the whole train was to be stopped short at East Croydon. Train was still waiting when I left.
The 0712 to London Bridge was only formed of 8 coaches.

Eventually jumped on the 0720 Bedford service, still none the wiser about what the broader problem was - no general announcement, explanation or apology was made.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

The 07.06 and the 07.12 were short-formed due to 'more units stopped than normal'......

The 06.59 to London Bridge was late, due to defective stock at Littlehampton, and was terminated short to avoid congestion at London Bridge, as there would be no platform available that late!

Thanks, is that the same as "shortage of available rolling stock"? "Stopped" meaning out of service presumably?

Yes, that is what usually happens if it runs late.

Appears to be just another manifestation of a continuing slide in the service then.

Until recently I had been a great defender of the rail network and Southern in particular but even I am beginning to wonder.

Generally I don't really worry if a train is a few minutes late but once or twice a week something goes wrong somewhere causing real delays or inconvenience, by which I mean having to stand for all or most of a journey or waiting about in a crowd for trains because of some incident or other.

I was on the platform at Haywards Heath at this time and they definitely were making some announcements about the problems.

At Brighton this morning, all the infoboards had crashed. Why they can't just reboot them, I don't know. Always helps at 7am when you have to guess which train is yours
Perhaps today is a 'duvet day' for them?
