Came accross this picture on rpictures.net: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=568006&nseq=72

It is a Swiss EMU hauling a short freight train. It seems to suggest that it is a passenger service, combined with a freight working. Did anyone else know that mixed trains were still running, or that there were EMU's hauling freight? Just shows what is possible when people want to do something. I'm sure if someone suggested this it would be shouted down as impractical. Glad to see them doing this :D

RhB have always done this. Glad to see the practice continuing with the latest stock.

Why run a separate train if you can hang something to a passengertrain!

RhB runs complete freights trains four - five times day on the main line Chur - St Moritz, and pure freights on other RhB routes. However it also tags freight wagons onto any passenger train anywhere on the network if there is a need.

I have seen heavily laden freight wagons tagged onto Arosa branch passenger trains running through the busy city centre street section in Chur on occasion

The picture shown is on the Bernina line where the Allegra EMUs are now the main stay of traction. The Allegra EMUs have been designed specifically to be dual purpose, passenger EMU but powerful enough to act as passenger train 'locos' and freight train 'locos' when necessary
