Hello

Newbie here so I hope I’ve posted this in the right place.

Other half and I are off to Brighton for the weekend next Friday. We are considering getting the 17:28 Thameslink from St. Pancras, but I wondered if any seasoned travellers on this route could let me know how busy it’s likely to be. We want a comfortable journey, and, being a commuter myself, don’t want to add to the general misery if this is already a packed route. We can hang back, get a drink and a later train if that would be better for all concerned.

Many thanks.

Seeing as it is right in the middle of the Friday evening peak, I would guess it will be rammed.

All Thameslink trains will be busy at that time of day, and realistically by 7pm it should be easier to have a more comfortable journey.

Or get the 1757 from London Bridge to Brighton if you can get over there, a 10 car class 442, as it starts there you should be able to get decent seats if you arrive early enough.

And it's a 442!

(sorry)

As you are going southbound from St P, you will get seats easily. However the train will be full and standing from City Thameslink, rammed from Blackfriars. It's an 8 car.

The 17:28 will be pretty full between Blackfriars and East Croydon but you are unlikely to have problems finding seats at St. Pancras (the current crawl via West Norwood means it's quicker to catch Southern from Victoria via the Victoria line). The back of the train usually has more space than the front.
