Hello can anyone please give me some advice on the cheapest tickets to buy to make this journey:
20 May. Leicester to Heathrow. Must be at Heathrow at about 11.30am

30 May. Heathrow to Leicester. Dept Heathrow about 1pm.

I am a pensioner with an over 60 rail card.

I presume I should use my Oyster card on the tube because the HR express is rather expensive.

Also I am considering getting a lift to Coventry where there is a cheap train to London Euston. (Though would rather not get a lift).

As you know the peak time trains from Leicester to London are very expensive.

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Friday 20th May:

The 08:56 from Leicester to St Pancras, arriving at 10:06 is currently on offer at £16.15.

It takes an hour to get to Heathrow on the Tube. The Oyster fare, with your railcard included is £2.05.

Monday 30th May:

Tube fare is £2.05.

The 14:26, 14:58, or 15:26 express services to Leicester are all on offer at £13.85.

All prices quoted include the railcard discount.

suzanne, I am also over 60 and whilst I love the train I find it very precarious on the Tube escalators with suitcases etc, plus a lot of walking at St Pancras.
Have you considered National Express coaches from leicester St Margarets to Heathrow Central? They also have a discount over 60 card.

If you use the Northern ticket hall at Kings Cross (i.e. the one you access from St Pancras near the South Eastern Platforms) there are lifts available to access the Piccadilly and Victoria line platforms

There is also the Heathrow Connect, which also runs from Paddington, for almost half the price which takes 25 minutes.

But it only runs every half hour. Given the time taken to travel from Kings Cross St Pancras to Paddington, then the interchange you're probably as well just sitting it out on the Piccadilly Line.
