Have Scotrail finished converting them to 320s, and if so, have they started work yet? My apologies is there was an earlier thread about this.

I saw 320411 (formerly 321411) was about on a test run last Sunday but I can't confirm whether they're in service yet.

I'm not sure of the latest details without searching numerous other threads, but weren't there still some in temporary use with LO very recently, that haven't gone for conversion yet?

From what I've seen on the ScotRail Facebook page they may have had a minor internal refresh but definitely no toilet fitted. The 320/3's definitely haven't seen a proper refurbishment since they were built and I would hesitate to describe the work done on the 318's a refurbishment either*.

*For the avoidance of any doubt I would consider a refurbishment to be something on the level of that currently being undertaken on the 321's as part of the Renatus project and not the changing of the seat covers etc that most companies now try to pass off as refurbishment.

A "proper" refurbishment would be like what SWTs done with their 456s

416 only arrived at Shields in the early hours of Friday morning from Doncaster, so that wont be in traffic yet. 411/412 are the other 2 already in Scotland

Will be another 4 weeks at least, if not longer, before another one comes north which should be 415, with 413 another couple of weeks behind it

414/417 I think are still operating in London area at present

i assume the compressor and main res tank has been moved if the 321s are like the 319s, because they are normally fitted under the trailer which is obviously no longer there.

What's going to happen to the redundant trailers?

Nothing interesting. There have been a number of explanations why they won't be inserted in other similar units without serious re-tractioning, and they'd still be a micro fleet of odd sized units, so storage by the Rosco or scrapping after component recovery seems most likely.

I'd hope the bodyshells would be kept somewhere- after the unfortunate incident with the SWT 455 at Oxshott a while ago, there may be a case for holding on to them for any similar unforeseen circumstances.

A perfectly reasonable suggestion, but probably not for all 7. I'm sure the owners will have a fairly good idea how often spare intermediate carriages are needed.

Someone should be shot for taking perfectly good 4 coach trains and reducing them to 3. Disgraceful waste of capacity.

They're no use on the Glasgow network as 4 cars, it'd not be possible to double up at peak.

I understand this point to an extent but there are many peak time services that are only 3 car, diagramming these with 4 car would have been a major benefit. I doubt if hauling the 4th car around outwith peak would result in much of a cost penalty. The Lanark, Neilston and Newton routes spring to mind.

But the suburban glasgow network is set up for 3 car units and changing all that isn't worth it when you factor in that we get the 385s in not too long and they will solve any capacity issue scotland will have in its EME fleet its not worth changing it all to allow 4 car trains for a year.

No, it's set up for 6 - I can even remember 9 car stop markers on the Cathcart circle when it was first electrified. Much of it can take 3, 4 and 6 car 380s which are 23 metres per car. It's 7 car sets that are the problem so just don't use them. All academic now as they are/will be shortened.

I think it would be more accurate to say its set up for multiples of three.

However the North Berwick route managed with four car Class 322 EMUs when they were around so I would have thought it might have been better to move the 321s (as four car) there and isolate as appropriate using 380s elsewhere within Scotrail.

The problem there is that freeing up 380s doesn't directly increase capacity on the routes which need it most during the tunnel works. The 334s work primarily on services from Helensburgh and Milngavie to Edinburgh, which have now become the main Glasgow to Edinburgh service, and they're the only trains which can be used on those services. A few 334s are normally free to run other services through the low level stations but these will now be used to strengthen the A-B service. The LM 320/4s can expand the 318/320 fleet by enough to cover the 334s on these extra services.

Once the tunnel works are complete the 320/4s probably represent the only increase in capacity on the North Electrics service until the Mk3 EMUs need replaced. They'll be able to free up 334s for A-B duties well into the future and they may be necessary for the 4tph service to Cumbernauld.

Two sets of 3 in LM livery were running across the new M8 overbridge near Bargeddie this afternoon, heading towards Whifflet . I wasn't close enough to spot numbers.

Arent the current NB 380s all 4-car though so its just replacing like for like. These are due to be replaced by 385s though arent they? I take it these will also be in 4 car formation for NB?
